Famous people are loaded with money. They can shake off a million dollar bond like a sneeze. That's what it comes down to. If you had that kind of money you could pull that off too. As for the news, it's a matter of local versus national news. Naturally if no one knows who you are and you didn't survive something really outlandish, the media may not care much. But if you are famous you will be all over the national circuit instantly. I just depends on how well known you are. Well, enjoy.

Some one responded about give an example where some one was let off with drunk driving. The Kennedy Clan is noted for drinking and driving all of the time. One of them even killed a girl while drinking and driving and is still considered a great Senator. The reason that the rich gets the headlines is that they are more known and it effects more people.

You are so right about this.
Do you remember a few years ago when a well known politician was stopped for DUI and let go because of who he is?
Now that guy is very rich and nothing was even done to him but if you or I who I believe are not rich or famous would get our butts hauled off to jail and then get sentenced to jail time.
Remember the Simpson case?
All the money in the world couldn't convict that murderer but Joe Schmoe down the street who hasn't got 2 dimes to rub together is shot and killed and nothing mentioned about him or the family he leaves behind.
Money really yells loudly doesn't it?

Because it's news when the rich and famous do something wrong. The people want to see that. Everybody likes to see someone "special" screw up. Nobody cares about the average guy's plight in life. That's probably a good thing because if I got busted or divorced or killed someone...I wouldn't want it all over the news anyway...it has always been that money buys privileges or good lawyers and I can't ever see that changing in this country.

Wealth=Importance; Importance=Press Coverage

or

"Wealthy person is supposed to be lucky. Getting shot is not very lucky. A wealthy person's life can suck like yours does. And unless you were shot, maybe a little more than yours."

And why do rich and famous people get off of charges in court? Rich or famous people get the best lawyers. The best lawyers know all of the tricks to get their clients off. Therefore, rich or famous people get off. When "normal" people get the best lawyers, they get to walk, too.

Mostly because we as the "unfamous" public arent as interested in the normal lives of everyday people. It could also be explained that since these people are known on a national level that their misfortune be reported nationally. If something bad happens in your family, your entire family will probably be notified. This works in the same way with someone known by the masses.

Because in this capitalist society,you are not somebody until you are rich.And the rich control everything.Especially the courts and the government.If you are poor,you are guilty until you can prove your innocence,if you can afford the lawyer.Pro bono lawyers are even scarier.Like they give a crap about you.And in the end,you still have to pay.

If they put everyday people on like us, the news would be on 24/7 and still not have enough time.
