i do not believe in god. i think that since humans are the only known species to ask "why," and some answers to questions are (or, at the time that the bible was written, were) unknown to us and we created religion to supplement our knowledge.
also, if we are supposed to be created in god's image, that would make god selfish, a good chance of being a murderer, and having numerous other qualities that many humans have. different humans are very different; therefore we cannot all be created in his image. or if we are, then that would make god schizophrenic.
why would god let so many people starve? why would he let us blow up innocent women and children? why would he make the world this way? if he is "all powerful" and "compassionate" then he would not let the world be the way it is.
i also have objections to noah's ark. this could not have been possible. antarctica, south america, north america, the north pole, and most of the world for that matter were not even known to noah or the people living in that region at that time. how could he have gone around the world, collecting two penguins, two polar bears, two giraffes, two of a rare species of frog in the amazon rainforest, and every other rare species (which, by the way, there are millions of), two ants, two elephants, etc. and put them all on his ark, which could not have possibly been big enough to hold all of these animals, not to mention the food to keep them alive for fourty days. the bible even gives the size of the boat: 40 square cubits. a cubit is an old unit of measurement that is 17 to 22 inches. two of each of the millions of species from all over the world could not have possibly fit on that boat. in addition, many species only have a lifespan of a few days, some only live for a matter of hours. this would mean that by the end of the forty days, many species would be dead anyway, so there would not be butterflies or other species here today. many species' diets consist of meat, so noah would either have to bring more than two of each species, to provide food to the carnivores, let the carnivores starve to death, or let the carnivores eat the other species, in which case those species would not be here today.
i could write much more but as you just need a good start on your essay, i think i have written enough. if you would like any more reasons, you can email me at blindsarecool@yahoo.com.

Are you trying to say that if you think there is a God, there is a God. If you think there is no God, there is no God? Think about this, logically, if a house has a builder therefor the universe and all the things has a Creator, God. So even others can't accept it, there's so many reasons to believe that God exist.

"I most definitely do not exist", God.
God exists as a belief but not in reality. The reason for God's success is that many people dread taking responsibility for their own life, the consequences of their actions and their own happiness.
God's success is further supported by those who are willing to cash in on the opportunity that these people present to them for supporting their belief that their is an alternative out to reality other than death; but ultimately both end up loosing by missing out on the joy that only reality can provide.
Good luck with your essay and your life!

Agree with you, but, as somebody has mentioned, 'reading the bible' alone is not the answer (in my opinion--but that is a topic for another debate). 'God' exists in everything and everyone; the smile of a baby, the eary morning dewdrop, the moon rays, your girl's kiss; all the animals-in everything.
Peace

does my grandmother who past away 15 years ago exist? lets us for all intent and purposes say he really does exist and he walks among us everyday, do we really think he would stand up and stand out a stake claim in his creation, this world full of hatred in which we live? i do not know about you but i would not want to take credit for the creation of humanity when clearly humans within humanity cant not live in peace free from all hate. i am not claiming to be a bleed-heart liberal by any means, an eye for an eye i always say but i have been asking myself that question every since i was confirmed. with all of the unnecessary death and murder which now encompasses the nightly news, if i was the man and i had the power, not only would i put an end to people living in fear from religious persecution but i would put an end to it all and i would stand up and say no more suffering. we were all told from the beggining that we were created in his image and we are to live our lives with his message en-craved in our minds everyday or have we simply evolved from the savage apes that roamed the earth hundreds of thousands of years ago? unfortunately, there appears to be more evidence of the ladder.

If you are studying philosophy, one approach to take, is to consider the origin of philosophy itself, as an opposition to myths. Philosophy tries to explain the world without resorting to the unnatural. You can look into the pre-Socrates philosophers and carry on from there.

explaining if god exist is like painting a portrait of sound. we hear it all around us but cannot see it. God is the MSG of every social and scientific theory in existence. he just makes it much more flavorful. my son who is sixteen has explained to me that the God i grew up knowing is in his opinion a myth. that their is a higher power but its not the almighty Yaw-eh or "I AM". but note he still believes! he could not look at life and not believe that at the core of all life (be it Yaw-eh or energy field) their is a Father (&/Or mother) of all creation.

I believe in the sun even though it is slow in rising.
I believe in you without realizing. I believe in rain though
there are no clouds in the sky. I believe in truth even though
people lie. I believe in peace though sometimes I am violent.
I believe in God even though he is silent.
