put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray the heck out of everything,It neutralizes the ammonia in urine!saturate it,then after it dried wash the area wish a household cleaner. If you don't want to work that hard! There is a product called "Out" some stores have it in the pet section while another store may have it in the household cleaning supplies, you saturate the area with it then( let it air dry!) I found that the air drying is important in ridding the smell! I have used it and after it dries, you can put your nose where the smell use to be and you'll not smell the urine! It's also good for any other type stain or Oder too!

Kids 'n' Pets
Quart sized, around $4.00
I have only seen it at Wal-Mart. It outdoes other urine products easily, since it actually digests the uric acid and doesn't just cover it up. It's like Febreeze on steroids. You might have to sniff around to find the exact spot, but this product is amazing when you use it properly. You may end up spending $20 by putting it over a huge area, but that's not that much to spend to get rid of it...
Good Luck :)

Spray everything down with white vinegar. Let it dry on its own in the fireplace. In the cabinets, rinse with water and cloth. Then inside the cabinets place a small bowl or saucer filled with vinegar and let stand overnight. I hope this helps. You may have to repeat since you said that you have painted.

BLEACH, BLEACH, BLEACH! clean the areas daily with a mixture of bleach and water, or a bleach product. Wipe your areas down with this at least 3 times a week until the smell disappears.

Most likely the prior owner had cats which have a particularly pungent urine. Most pet stores sell odor elimination products to address this problem.
