I have two HDD on my pc. Primary and a Backup. I reinstalled my XP pro and I did not pay attention to what hdd it was going to be reinstalled on, I find out after that the new installation was done on my backup HDD. argh.

IS it possible to still get the data back? What software can I use that is available over the net ?

(I've tried using Stellar but it seems like it can only see the current contents of the HDD and not the previous contents.)

This is where you want to go. You can download a demo of Restorer 2000 and run it to see if it can locate the contents your looking for. Understand that this data will only be able to be recovered if it has NOT been over-written during the most recent install, and only if you are restoring the data to a Different drive than the one that contains the lost data. Can it be done from the same drive? Sure but you will risk the chance of loosing data that the restorer software found recoverable if not restoring to a secondary drive. This will show all partitions that have been created and what if anything is left to recover. The demo will let you read the data, see that it's there or not. However it will not let you recover it until you have purchased the software. I bought it, and to be completely honest it's a lifesaver.

P.S. Yes this is a special recovery software and it does NOT cost 1000. It does read as many re-formats or re-partitions as you've had. You'll find many many other programs out there. I'm not saying this is the best, I'm sure it's not the best. Only that this was the one I found to be the most functional for my needs.
I purchased the Pro Version. 49.99

You did not say if you formatted the hard drive. If you formatted it then you will need special expensive recovery software and even if you didn't I would still pony up the money for the special recovery software because this could cost you a thousand or more dollars to have someone do it. Follow the software instructions and good luck.

most of the time if your hard drive was not partitioned, installing the new operating system will format the data that was stored on it before the OS is installed, in other words .. idoubt u'll be able to get it back
