Okay, get ready to shop, girl! It's good you are thinking about this now, so you can buy this stuff over the next several months - it will be easier on the pocketbook!
- Carseat: be sure to get a good one that is appropriate for a newborn and make sure you know the correct way to use it. Most baby stores can help with this if you ask.
- Crib and all the accessories (mattress, mattress pad and bedding)
- Bassinet for the first few months
- Changing table (if you can)
- Playpen (they have playpens that also have a changing area)
- Diaper bag
- Lots and lots of diapers!
- Baby wipes
- Diaper rash cream
- Baby bath tub
- Baby soap/shampoo
- Several wash cloths
- a few hooded towels
- Baby lotion
- Talcum powder
- Onsies
- Booties and socks
- More diapers
- Recieving blankets
- Baby carrier (front or sling)
- Bibs
- Bulb syringe (to clear your baby's nose, if needed)
- Baby-friendly thermometer
- Pacifier(s)
- Did I mention diapers?
- If breast feeding, you'll need breast pads (because of leakage), a breast pump and nipple cream)
- Bottles
- LAUNDRY DETERGENT
- Baby monitor
- Q-tips
- Baby nail clippers
- Clothes (he or she will need something other than onsies)
- Last, but not least, diapers
I know this all looks overwhelming. Don't worry, though - you should get a lot of this stuff at any showers that are thrown for you!
Good luck - all of this is definitely worth it! The fact that you're thinking about this already is good - I think you'll be a wonderful mommy =)

A car seat is most important because most hospitals won't let you leave the hospital if you don't have one. You will need lots of diapers, formula, clothes, a crib or bassinet. That should be good to start off with. Have a baby shower and let people buy for you. Good luck! Babies are wonderful and a joy. They will teach you while you are teaching them. I had my first 8 years ago and I was a little scared at first, but he is the most important person in my life and he has brought me such joy. You will enjoy motherhood, maybe not so much being pregnant at times. Again good luck!

the basic essensials would be a crib , car seat , clothes , diapers , baby products , blankets , ect. there's more to this.but i think the best thing you can do is to go to target or walmart or any baby store. these type of stores carry 98 % of the essensials at very reasonable prices. alot also depends on how fancy you want your nursery to be.
when you do your registry , you can pick anything you want. if you're still not sure , take someone with you who has had a baby before it's good to register , because when you have your baby shower , people will know what to get for you.
and whatever you do, make sure the when people pick off of the registry list , that they know to give the list to cashier so that the registry can be updated & kept accurate on a daily basis. otherwise you have a whole bunch of diapers or bottles & not enough of the other things you'll need. most baby lists are updated within 24 hours
good stores to shop -
baby's r us
k-mart , wal - mart , target, baby boutiques , ect

Stock up on diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, lotion, baby bath, children's Tylenol, Mylecon (they are going to get gas), personal hygeine kit that includes a nail clippers, etc.
I wish I would have done this...bought the things that I needed daily BEFORE the baby was born as you normally get showered with clothes, towels, washcloths, teething rings, pacifiers, toys, etc. at your baby shower if you're going to have one.
Babies, at least newborns, go through about 8 - 10 diapers a day so I would buy quite a few to start with. In the longrun, too, it will save you a ton of money as well as trips to the store when you can barely keep your eyes open from all of those midnight feedings. Good Luck and Congrats!

I just had #3 so I know a little about this! The most important is a car seat. Also diapers and a lot of them. The most important thing to remember when buying things is to wait until after the baby shower...if you are having one. Not necessary to have, but convenient to have is a swing, a Snugli (baby carrier) and Playtex bottles with the drop in liners.

I really found that having a baby carrier is invaluable to me. It makes getting things done a lot easier with a little one. Young babies will not just let you put them down when you have to go wash the dishes, or sweep the floor (or go to the bathroom, for that matter) and my daughter would scream if I put her down. I have three different types of baby carriers, and I love all of them and use them all for different reasons.
I have a baby sling - this can be difficult to figure out in the beginning but if you get Dr Sears baby book, they outline how to use it very well. It came in handy in walking to help baby fall asleep, and helped me to get some stuff done by freeing up my hands.
A front baby carrier - I recommend Baby Trekker brand - it's bigger and comfier and will hold your baby for longer. They are a little more expensive, so if you can't afford it, the popular Snugli is alright too (maybe $20-30 canadian) and serves the purpose.
A baby backpack - this can't be used until baby is 4-5 months old but comes in REALLY handy when we are hiking, which we do a lot of. We practice what is called attatchment parenting and do not even own a stroller, but we still have free hands because we always use our baby carriers (and our daughter is happier this way anyway!)
good luck!

A car seat; crib, bassinett; playpen; DIAPERS; WIPES;DIAPER RASH CREAM; infant tub that fits into the sink; clothes; nail clippers; baby lotion; baby wash; baby shampoo....the list goes on and on. Check out the webpage below. They will give you all the info you need. You'll like it. Baby showers are good for you. I would suggest you try to get a medical card from medicare. They pay for all your appointments, medicine, and for when you are in the hospital. Also check into Women Infants Children WIC. You get free food such as milk, cereal, peanut butter, juice. After the baby is born, if you decide to bottle-feed they buy your formula, cereal, and juices. No cost to you. Its a life saver for me because my baby is formula fed and its so expensive.

The only essentials for a new baby are clothes and diapers (and a car seat if you travel by car). Everything else is optional. The things I would put highest on my want list are a baby sling and a rocking chair.

a sling or baby wrap to wear your child around. This early attachment fosters indepence as the child gets older. Also, the book, The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding as well as Dr. Sears books. Car seats such as Alpha Omega. We wasted our money on a playpen (or play yard).
