well not having standing water in your backyard is a good start. mosquitos like to hang out there and they lay eggs in it. keep the grass short and dry. also there are certain bug repellant candles or lights you can buy at most stores (walmart and safeway i think) that will drive away mosquitos. also a device was just recently put on the market that digitally repells insects- it sends out high frequency waves that drive them away. however, they can be really expensive! (im sorry, but i cant remember what it was called) maybe you could look into some of these ideas!

Several Things you can do to reduce mosquitos: 1 get rid of any standing water around your place. This means stagnant ponds but also and more easy any water barrels buckets old ties and anything else that has still water for them to breed in.2 If you use those lights to zap them they work by attracting the mosquitoes to be zapped so you should use them outside of the area you are in so that the will 'suck' the mosqutoes out of your area. If you are in front of or close to the bugzapper it is drawing them to you.3 Repellents and smudges. Repellents are for personal use really. the best is DEET, This stuff should not be on your skin, it is very strong, it will eat plastics, I found the best way to use it is to soak it into the brim of a wide brim hat like a cowboy hat, this seem very effective and it lasts a long time. Smudges are things like citronela candles and torches etc. once again these are best used more like a perimeter defence instead of something in your exact location.4 CUTTING GRASS this is the most over loked one. Mosquitoes may need water to breed but they dont live there.Mosquitoes hide in the grass or in shrubberry in the day and come out at night to feed, So if you cut the grass around where you live you will not have as many mosquitoes to deal with. % Fogging this is when you use a broad area application of insecticide fog or smoke to kill all insects over a large area. It is only a temporary measure because of course insects treavel and soon move back into the area, Also it kills many insect and others that you might prefer to have in the area. I can not recomend Fogging except in special cases.
by the way it is only the females that suck blood, they use the blood meal to make eggs, the males live on flower nectar same as butterflies do

Use plants!
ROSEMARY
This wonderful herb we use for seasoning is also a great, natural mosquito repellant. It has been used for centuries to keep pesky mosquitoes away.
I had a problem with mosquitos last year.So a few weeks ago I bought a large Rosemary bush and I haven't had any mosqitos at all this year,or flies!
MARIGOLDS
Organic gardeners have used marigolds as companion plants to keep aphids away. Mosquitoes don't like its scent any better

A) Keep the grass short.
B) Tempo bug spray works great, but you probably have to go to a commercial place to get it.
C) The coils that are sold by "Off" work really well if you buy a few and burn them in the terra cotta burners. Place them around the year where no one will step.
I am not sure where you live, but I live in MN and the mosquitos are vicious here. I hate them with a vengence. I wish they would bomb this whole area with come evil poison to kill the little bloodsucking beasts once and for all.

Dragon flies eat mosquitos. Buy a thousand dragon flies - let them loose in your backyard- you will have no more mosquitos for at least 5 years. Also turn off lights and heat sources.

First, try to keep your backyard as dry as possible. If there is grass on it, try not water them every day.
Second, plant some herbes that is the anti-mosquitos type.
Third, try to clean your back yard as frequently as possible, gabbage definetely the place where mosquitos can hide!

They have those things that burn. They kinda help. Or you could get a net thing!! Those bugs just don't give up!! Or a zapper, though it sucks being outside when that is going on.
