A couple we have been friends with for the past 2 years just had a baby boy.

Before my wife got pregnant we told them the name we picked out for a boy: Jack. Well they said they would never pick that name and my wife was relieved about their decision.

Now they named their baby Jack! My wife was upset and said she didn't know if she still wants to name our unborn son Jack! She said it will be weird since our friends' child has the same name and feels like it's no longer "her name" for her baby anymore.

I say it sucks they picked the same name, but we decided on this name TWO YEARS AGO and it won't be weird since we only see them once a month.

I told her its not just their name and its okay for us to name our baby what we want. Who cares if they think we "stole" their name!

If that is the name you love, do it. Don'[t change your mind based on someone else. Names are special when paired with a middle name and your last name. Your baby's name will be just as special

You will be lucky if you are still friends with this couple when your baby is old enough to care about things like these. With all of the changes one goes through in life, most probably, you will grow apart, don't take me wrong, I wish you have many lifelong friends, but if you are still friends ten years from now, this won't matter, it will be fun even, and if you're not friends any more, it won't matter either!
Of course it's okay to name him Jack, but your wife has all the right to be angry also! A name is something that takes so much thought and time to finally come up with, so if she really does not want to name him that, pay attention to her and start thinking of another name. Otherwise, try to convince her into naming the baby Jack, just like you had dreamed of years ago. It's totally okay, your friends shouldn't mind, not only because it was your idea to begin with but mostly because it's a great name. Good luck on that and congratulations on your new baby boy!

I think you should name your child whatever name you want, and if it's Jack then it should be Jack. It's still the name you picked out because you picked it over any other name and it must be important if you picked it so long ago.
Honestly if the other couple is upset about it they have no right since they picked a name they knew you were going to pick. And if they do say anything about it you can just say "We always wanted to name our son Jack, remember how we told you that a couple of years ago?" and leave it at that.

I think that what they did is really wrong, and I can understand why your wife would be upset. If I was you, I would keep the name Jack. Especially because you have been planning to name your son that for 2 years. If your friends have a problem with it, then that is their problem and they can get over it. They shouldn't have stolen that name from you to begin with, especially after saying they wouldn't do that. True friends mean what they say and don't lie. Plus, I think it would be cool to have the same name as someone else, because your children will probably grow up to be friends. Good luck!

I don't see a problem with naming him Jack. But if it is too weird and your wife is too upset, look at other possiblities and then maybe use Jack as a middle name.

No matter what you decide make sure the both of you are happy with it because you are going to be saying it a lot!

To test out names, stand at your back door and yell it out for 5 minutes ~ if you still like it after 5 minutes, it is a good name for you to select. :)

Jack Kennedy has already been taken. Hazel Kennedy is still a good name, unless your wife's name is Hazel Kennedy.

Seriously, if the baby is a boy, pick a name that can be called out in a sport's bar without snickers. Jack was good. Sam, Lou, Nick, Joe, Tony, Mike, Jim, Bill ---- good. Winston is bad. Brandon, Corey, Damien, Orlanda, Evan, Lucifer, "W" --- all bad. Joshua is on its way.

Think about having a beer with your son at a bar, and who you want to toss a frosty one with.

Imagine yourself at a bar as your son. Then, imagine your good friends calling your name.

I think your friends showed very bad taste by selecting the name they knew you had chosen for your baby. IF anything, they owe you an apology. Go ahead and name your boy Jack - It's a good, solid and popular name, after all - and since you don't see them every day there shouldn't be any confusion.

My mom named my sister Susan - and her sister (my aunt) already had a daughter by that name! They both loved the name and since they lived several hundred miles apart, there was little or no confusion. One became "Suzie G" and the other just "Susan".

It's perfectly fine to name your child the wonderful name you two chose two years ago, Jack. A very solid name: Hebrew for God is Gracious. The boy's name Jack is pronounced jak. It is of Old English origin. Name based on John (Hebrew) "the Lord is gracious", or Jacques, the French form of Jacob (Hebrew) "he who supplants." The name has a rugged, down-to-earth aura. Jackie is used more for girls than for boys. Actors Jackie Gleason, Jack Nicholson, Jack Black; comedian Jack Benny; exercise guru Jack LaLanne. I say name your child Jack, your friends were probably not trying to be ugly by choosing your name, see it as a form of flattery. Because that's what it is. God Bless you all! Mzz

Pick a different name, it is weird to do sumthing like that, besides jack isnt so hot anyway, im sure you will be able to come up with something a lot better than that, its a pretty plain name, names are supposed to be fun and unique!!!!!
