Ok my dog brought up this baby bunny that the vet said was only a day or two old. WE have been feeding it kitten milk for a week and we were wondering what we were supposed to do what do you think that we should do? How do you raise them? Is it illegal in Kansas?

My family and I have raised a few wild baby bunnies and we also gave them wild animal baby milk witch you can buy at any pet store. The problem is they are like real babies and need to be fed every two hours so plan to have sleepless nights. We always fed ours with a baby animal bottle or a syringe. Don't forget to give it water also. You can in a few days try and transfer it to baby food. Real baby food in jars but stay away from items containing alot of sugar. Eventually it should be able to eat the food out of a shallow dish and also drink water on its own. When it is about three weeks old I would begin to take it outside and allow it to eat fresh food and find these things on its own. If you choose to let it go, around four weeks would be a good time.

While I was able to successfully foster a litter of 6 wild bunnies, they were quite a bit older and those as young as a few days don't usually do well. Make sure you are keeping them WARM and feeding them at least 4 times a day. We would microwave latex gloves full of water and use them like a hot water bottle under towels in the box where we kept the litter. Raising a solo baby is VERY difficult. I had one once that sounded much like what you have and it seemed to thrive until it opened its eyes and started running around. I thought he was doing great and then one day he just started flipping on his side and couldn't stay up and died a few hours later (apparently they miss an enzyme from the mother's milk when fostered). It's worth a shot, but go into knowing that it isn't easy and the outcome is rarely good. One thing the vet techs I worked with shared with me was that you need to stimulate their bowels as the mother would while cleaning them (just gently rub their abdomen with a warm cloth, say after feeding them as you clean any formula off). If you have a vet nearbye you might be able to get a tiny syringe, it makes feeding much easier. Make sure the formula is warm but not too hot, and just make up small amounts at a time (if you're using the powdered formula) as it can go bad after a day or two. Good luck!

If it has been drinking the milk for a week, it should be okay. Maybe in another week, try to get it to eat rabbit food, and offer it lettuce and some chopped carrots. Make sure it has water also. It is never illegal to care for a baby wild animal tp save its life.

Wild bunnies don't do well in captivity after they are grown. You can raise it while it is tiny and cute, but do let it out in your yard often, so that you can release it when it is about 4-7 weeks old.

i don't know about kansas but we have wild bunnies in the desert behind my house (there's not alot left though because the coyotes find them) you would think they could have rabies or a disease from being wild, so i'd be really careful.

The easier thing to do may be to try to find a wildlife rehab center. They would have all the supplies and know how to help the rabbits. Try this website listed below to find one.
