I'm 21 - 5'8" - 260lbs. For approx the last 6 months my cycles have been lasting 35-45 days. Before then, I never kept track of days. I never know when it's going to start or if it's going to come at all. Could this have something to do with my weight? What else could be causing my irregular cycles? I usually have a lot of cramping and very heavy bleeding for the first couple of days. My boyfriend and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a 18 months now but with periods like this, I never know whats going on. Help!

I meant my entire cycle is 35 - 45 days. You know, from the day I start bleeding to the next time I start bleeding. The bleeding itself only lasts around 5 days so that is pretty normal. I just have my periods ever month and a half instead of every month.

Also, I've consulted my doctor about this already. His advised that I wait and see if anything changes. Before they seemed pretty normal and just lately things have changed. I've had the normal tests - pap smears, ultrasounds, but they found nothing. So now I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this and what the outcome was. Any advice means a lot to me.

Most people would say that it's not normal but, I have the same problem. The only way to regulate you period would be to get on birth control. In order to still be able to have kids make sure it's a really, really, mild birth control so it would do just what it's suppose to. Regulate your period and you might want to visit your gyn and tell them you want to have kids so that they cold give you vitamins to begin to take so that you body will prepare itself for a baby. And a lot of people also says Geritol works too, to get pregnant.

Go to the gynecologist. If you are old enough to have a baby, you are old enough to take care of your body and ask this question of a medical professional. Please understand -- the first step in caring for an infant is showing responsibility when faced with medical questions.

Don't ask people on the internet. I hope Yahoo! Answers restricts medical questions such as this. No one other than a doctor could tell you if your weight, cramping heavy bleeding or attempts at pregnancy are related. Please don't take any medical advice here...visit WebMD.

The biggest factors for irregular periods (pardon the pun) is weight gain, being heavy in general and high amounts of stress. Diet and exercise don't always help but can potentially help. If you are stressed you need to lighten your work load. There is also a condition called cystic fibrosis which causes irregular periods and is common in overweight women. Consult your gynecologist regarding this matter and take care of yourself, please.

you will definitely need to go see your ob-gyn.
you should not be bleeding more than 7 days. if your weight goes up and down a lot, this could be causing irregular periods. also, after calculating your body mass index, you are technically obese. obesity can cause your trouble getting pregnant.

your weight is part of it yes. also the stress of "trying to get pregnant" see the littlest thing can change your period course like you wouldnt belive. For example me and my friend are both over weight. her and i went on a diet together. the loosing weight triggered both of us to actually have a period "me not having one in 2-3 months and her not having one in almost a year" gyno said that extra weight gain can be the cause of irrigular

You need to seek medical attention immediately. If your cycles last that long you could bleed too much and be anemic. You could have polyps or cysts or something. Don't wait too long.

It could have something to do with your weight, stress level, diet--there are several possibilities. Definitely see your doctor because it could be something serious, such as damage to your female organs.

Were you ever on an oral contraceptive? They can sometimes mess with your cycles.
