since 24 is the volume of 3 identical cubes, 24/3 would give you the volume of one cube
(8)

the volume of a cube can be calculated by multiplying its sides together, and since the sides are all the same, the side length to the power of 3 is equal to 8 (set x as side length)

x^3 = 8
x= cube root of 8, equals 2

hope that helped:)

3 cubes have the volume of 24. That means that each cube has a volume of 8. Volume equals length x width x height. So the cube root of 8 is 2. or turn it around 2 x 2 x 2 is 8. So each side must be 2 in. in length

If all cubes are the same size then one cube has volume of 8 cubic inches. The formula for volume is V = s^3, where s is the length of one side. Therefore 8 = s^3 and s is 2. The cubes thus all have lengths of 2 inches.

Let the length of the sides of the cubes be x. The volume of the stack of cubes is length times width times height. If the three cubes are sitting on top of each other, the length and width are both x, and the height is 3x. So the total volume is x*x*3x. That equals 24 cubic inches, so now just solve for x:

x*x*x3 = 24
3(x^3) = 24
x^3 = 8
x = 2

Thus the length of each side of each cube is 2 inches.

The volume of a cube is the product of three of its sides:
x * x * x, or x^3

You have three cubes whose total volume is 24:
3x^3 = 24

Just solve for x:
(3x^3)/3 = 24/3
x^3=8
(x^3)^(1/3) = 8^(1/3) ...cube root
x = 2

If they are the same size, then each has a volume of 8 cubic units. That's 2 x 2 x 2. So they are two units on a side.

Had you put a period after "in" and Capitalized "what," I would say those units are inches. But of course the volume would be cubic inches.

You need to be more careful how you describe geometrical units.

8 24/3

2006-06-13 22:02:09 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

2 inches

Total volume=L*W*3H (It's 3 because there are three stacked cubes, therefore there is 3 times the height.)

24=x*x*3x
24/3=x*x*3x/3
8=x^3
Take the cubed root of 8 and it equals 2.
2*2*3(2)=24

Hope this helps!
