I'd say it depends on the country. In western countries yes; so Canada, the US, UK, etc. In other places (Middle East especially) it is really a religious thing whereas in the west it's moved away from being solely a religious practice.

Yes, but there is no scientific information indicating that it is necessary. The reasoning behind it is mostly superstition and religious beliefs. The only thing that scientific studies have revealed is that it is torture for the baby and they actually go in to shock after the procedure. I learned this and much more during my natural child-birth classes.

No, The Jewish culture circumcise male babies eight days after birth as a religious rite.
Others may have the operation done for hygienic reasons

I don't agree, It is widely accepted and done in the US but that is not true for the rest of the World.
