After you have run all the spy ware, adware, and anti virus checks, if it still runs slow, try these other options, that won't require rebuilding the PC...First run a defrag (start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter). (Disable any screen saver running). Check the amount of RAM too, it is cheap and relatively easy to install. Add as much as you can afford. These simple steps should show some improvement on the speed of the PC.

the best antivirus program is Kapersky but it is extermly expensive buy this (35$) not affilated with Eset. Nod-32 totally light wieght that will clean and protect your entire system works on all versions of windows and some versions of linux.
They have a free 30 day trial so try it--it will fix your PC and will well be worth the 35$ a year!
Also if your on the cheap Avast offers a free home version of thier award winning software.
Do not use Norton!

Perhaps it is a spyware infection. Unfortunately without internet connection it will be more difficult to get the needed updates for a spyware scanner to be most effective. Download the install package and updates for spybot S&D & adaware to check the system. Also would be a good idea to check the fans on the system as some cpu's will slow down in response to overheating.

Try running anti-spyware. Use Ad-AwareSe from Lavasoft and Spybot. If you have WinXp download Defender Beta as well and run a deep scan. I hope you ran the anti-virus program in safe mode as, once a virus is activated, it may not be found in normal mode.

Search in your local hard drives all the *.tmp files and erase them, also give a right click on the hard drive and select "proprties", there select "clean disk" (or something lke that) after doing that it should run a little faster.
There´s no problem erasing those file because the´re all temporally files

if you have the original cd's that came with your computer you might try reloading it. If you don't then try defragmenting it and getting rid of your temp files and cookies.
