I want to buy red lipstick, like the classic crimson you see in all the old movies. But, what shade should I get? Some have more of a pink shade and some are more on the burgundy side. How do I complement my skin tone?

Ok, I have fairly fair skin, but I tan really easily in the summertime. I'd say I'm more of a pinkish-blue undertone.

the paler your skin, the pinker the lipstick. if you are tan or have olive colored skin, dark deep red is the way to go. burgundy is for more formal occasions.
props...i love that red color from the old movies! my fav!!

Lighter skin tones normally do well with a darker red. So you would want to go with a burgandy red or a champaign color. Brighter reds will just make you look even more fair. You do not want to wear red lipstick of any shade unless you have full lips.

Go to the mall and stop by Clinique, Este Lauder, MAC, or any make-up counter, and tell them you want a red. Not everyone can wear the classic va-va-voom red, but everyone can wear a shade of red. You just have to find it. The reps at any of those stores can help you with that.

I personally look best in a red lipstick with a blue undertone. It used to be called British Red Coat by L'Oreal. I also like one by Trucco called Fatal.

CONSULT, CONSULT, CONSULT! ASK THE LADY AT THE COUNTER (IF SHE IS UNDER 70 YRS--HAD BAD EXPERIENCE). ANYWAY, EVEN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND TOP DOLLAR. ALSO GO TO THE MAC COUNTER, SOME DEPARTMENT STORE, OR SEPHORIA AND ASK THEM WHAT COMPLEMENTS THE UNDERTONES IN YOUR SKIN. OR SIMPLY GO ON-LINE AND LOOK IT UP. ASK FOR OVER THE COUNTER SAMPLES AND THEN YOU CAN TRY THEM ON AT HOME. ALSO IF YOU FIND ONE YOU LIKE GET A SIMILAR COLOR FORM AVON OR MARY KAY. SOME OF THE BEST & AFFORDABLE LIPCOLORS THAT LAST ARE AVON & MARY KAY. AND THEY ARE NOT AS EXPENSIVE AS THE DEPARTMENT STORE BRANDS.

get a red lipstick with blue underones then. The makeup lady should be able to help you out if you go to a department store. .

I don't know what kind of skin tone you have, but if you are like me and are yellowish a blue-red looks good. Mac has great matte colors. Rubine is one but it might be discontinued. anyway, try mac mattes. Put a gloss over it if it is too dry.

Go to a makeup counter and ask which one you should use. Also just try some as well. Remember red is a hard color to do so it might be hard to find just the right one.

very classic! I would get maybe either just plain old red or little lighter or pinker, those dark crimson ones are VERY dramatic and I dont think those brown-red ones are attractive on anyone.
