Yes, it's probably an infected lymph node, or ingrown hair, as the previous answerer suggested. As a former nurse and one who has suffered several swollen lymph nodes in my life, you should see a doctor or go to a free clinic and have it "lanced", which will drain the pustulent material and return your body to normal. Don't worry, it's a common problem and 99.99% sure, no cancer.

BABYGURL see a doctor... i don't think it's life threatening, but you should still make sure everything is okay. Tell you parent or guardian about it, or ask someone at your school (like the nurse)...... I just went to yahoo and typed "lump in armpit"... you do the same and read what it says, they say it normal for adolscents just beginning to shave (something with your lymph nodes). See!! Don't worry! You'll be fine. Wish you the best and don't shave every single day, only when hair grows in....

It could be some type of neoplasm, you should have that checked out and let the physician perform a biopsy to find out what it is, and if it is a neoplasm is it benign, malignant, or in situ
benign means that it is mild in character and not malignant, malignant means that it can spread to other parts of the body, whereas in situ means that it is confined to the celluar structure so you really need to have a biposy done to make sure, and sometimes if you shave when the hair grows out some of them grow inward, and you may even need to change deodorants they can cause lumps/masses as well

At about your same age I had the same thing, finally went to the doctor and it turned out to be an ingrown hair (yes it was like looking at a golf ball from my vantage point). Dr numbed it and"lanced" it, really gross, like a huge zit. That was 20+ years ago and I am still alive, only bad thing is I sometimes get ingrown hairs in that same spot, but never let them get big like that. As your armchair doctor, I would put money on it being that...either way go to a doctor so you can quit worrying. Good Luck.

It is a gland (Lymph Node) that fights off disease. Go get it removed. I had one under my arm pit and two under my jaw bone. The one under my arm grew to almost the size of a grapefruit and then one day I woke up in the middle of the night in the most severe pain I have EVER felt in my life!! It was bright red and even MORE swollen. I went straight to the ER and they did surgery in less then 30 min to remove all three. It is extremely dangerous if you don't get it removed. It can affect your immune system.

I had that happen to me last summer.
I had it for like 2 weeks and it went away for a month then came back.
Went to the doctor who told me it was an uncancerous cyst. He said that sometimes when you're shaving, you can expose a folical or cut open a little area or clog a sweat gland. This area can fill up with puss/fluid and make it hard and painful.
He told me to just stop shaving for a while, so I did and it went away and hasn't come back.

It probably is a lymph node, swelling can be caused for a number of reasons, you definetly should get it checked right away.
It also could be an ingrown hair, when they infect in an area such as that they can be pretty nasty.
Good Luck and go to the Doctor, PLEASE

Some things are not meant for self-diagnosis. Get peace of mind by visiting your family physician.
