BETA is usually a final testing stage to iron out more bugs before finally rolling out the finished product. Beta testers (I was one) are prepared to wipe their systems and start from scratch if the software is very bad and Beta users have no guarentees. If you crash, oh well. Most developers will not send out products that bad but there have been a few in the past that were awful.

BETA is a test program released to the public for feed back so all the bugs can be worked out before it's final release. beta programs are good for the most part, but there have been some that have done nasty things like crashing the computer it's installed on.

Software that has not been fully tested. Gives companies a chance to have the public try and test out their software and report any problems. It is also intended to lower expectations by the end user if there is a problem.
