a) do you want to hook up 2 computers, i.e. networking, then you don't need a router. you only need network cable.

b) if you mean to let two computers to go online together, then you need a router. First you need to connect a modem to the phone jack or cable jack; then you need to install a router to connect to the modem. this modem will be connected to the two computers by network cable. if you want this connection to be wireless. each computer will have to install a wireless transmitter. the installation is not very difficult, as replied by the first response.

Wire goes from modem to router to both computers. Modem has to be bridged to allow router to take over. router has to be set with password for account. Wireless router should be encrypted. To do all the above your best bet is to call the router company to walk you through the router setup and possibly the modem setup. If they cannot do the modem, call your ISP for that step.

Connect the computers to the router, and the modem if there is one. Run the router setup disk on computer one. Then run the in "Network Connection Wizard" on both computers. That should do it.

try a wireless adaptor to recieve a signal, I have a netgear wireless USB adaptor
