I believe that you wash silk in the sink or tub in cold water and Woolite.

if it is a silk fabric ) not sewn into anything yet, wash in cold water on gentle cycle(don not add bleach to white silk it will turn yellow)If the silk is a lining in a skirt, shirt, dress etc,I wouldn't chance washing it at home! I "had" a beautiful black velvet dress lined with silk,I hand washed in cold water and hung it up to dry, well the velvet stayed a size 5 the silk went down to a size 2 or 3!

As a Crazyquilter.... We use new and recycled fabrics. But one of the "unwritten" rules of using recycled stuff is that it must be washed. Even when it's considered "Dry Cleanable". So, I've purchased silk---different kinds and thrown them into my washer on the gentle cycle and with a mild detergent like Woolite. Then to the dryer....just for a short amount of time..... So far, I've had no major ordeals getting the stuff cleaned up. I've added each one to my quilting stash to use in the future. I'd like to add, that it may also depend on the type of silk you have....how it's constructed.....etc... IF you still have any doubts, check with a fabric store for a similar product and see what they're instructions are. Good luck....

I have washed silk items in cold water and gentle detergent before without any harm coming to them. Just make sure the entire item is saturated and no cleaning solution spots

If its pure silk do not wash at home coz it will turn limp and dull. Silk is always dry cleaned.
