okay, basic stuff:
ax^2 + bx + c = 0 and the discriminant is b^2 - 4ac.

Okay so far? Kewl

I need to "play" with these numbers and come up with a positive, zero and a negative. Then, graph the corresponding equation and give examples of how they are used in the real world.

I am thinking a spring as in a shock absorber for a car for a negative?

no idea for any of the others....

Can you point me in the right direction? Please.

(you don't have to do the math, just give me an idea for real every day uses. Or where I can find these examples. It is my homework and I would like to do it on my own, just completely lost here, so looking for a little help)

If you have an equation

ax2+bx+c = 0

the roots of the equation are found by the formula:

The expression b2 - 4ac is called the discriminant. Its value tells you whether you have no roots, 1 root or 2 roots.
Case 1: b2 - 4ac <0
If it is less than 0, that means you are trying to find the square root of a negative number. Ergo, no roots. An example is x2-2x+5.
Case 2: b2 - 4ac = 0
The square root of 0 is 0. One root. Period. An example is x2-2x+1. The only root is x = 1.
Case 2: b2 - 4ac > 0
Here we have 2 roots. An example is 2x2-x-15. We have a = 2, b = -1 and c = -15. Plugging these numbers into the formula, one root is 3 and the other is -5/2.

you can still use that shock absorber for the positive in contraction as well .

You need another two variables. The size of the prize and the angle of the dangle. They are conversely disproportional, indirectly.

Why would you need 4 Air Conditioners?

I was thinking about this same problem the other day while I was pumping gas. It seems there is no answer to it so I kept pumping.
