I thought our wireless modem was encrypted, but earlier a window came up on my computer that said "Someone logged on from a another computer." or something of that nature. My question is how can I encrypt it (without taking it to a professional if possible) Your help is appreciated!

Both the first two responses are right (though its WPA; WAP is a protocol used to enhance mobile web), though it sounds like the second solution would be the best one in this case. Enforcing a username and password to logon to the network would prevent anyone from accessing it without your permission.

I would definitely suggest enabling WPA anyway, as it will prevent you from being attacked or monitored by any novice hacker with half a brain (WEP is crap!)

You have to turn on WPA (not wep) WEP has problems as it relates to secure exchange of key it can be guessed and does not employ a proper level of security. WPA allows you to use a PSK (pre-sharred key to do encryption) it can bet set for 64 or 128 bit. Also you can enable IPSec but that may be overkill depending on the situation.

The poster at the bottom is correct i have changed my mistake. Username/password authentication only works with RADIUS meaning you would have to have a radius server and accounting server for RADIUS logons, WPA is a better security measure that does not require total involvement.

Make sure security is running with a user name and password on your router. Check to see if a program came with the install disk for you modem to make it secure.
