depends on what you're looking to do. if you want to get into the technical fields (such as engineering or computer sciences), professional fields (such as law or medicine) or the business fields, you'd be better off going to one of the UC schools, if you can get in. However, the UC system is a tough nut to crack the CSU schools are a great second choice.

As a group they don't rank the highest, but ranking only matters to people who care about them. Unfortunately, people who are hiring in the job market care about them.

Based on some of the grammar already displayed in the answers to your question, one might think that they suck. But the truth is they are some of the best. California has one of the best state college systems in the country. Instructors are great; for the most part they do the teaching. A lot of big name private schools hire their professors to research, not teach. This isn't the case in the CSU and UC systems. We also have a lot of options that other states don't have. We have colleges on the beaches, in the mountains, in the big cities, in the small towns. Another bonus is that they are very affordable and offer great financial aid options. Our public secondary schools may need some help but at least our colleges rock.

I can't compare them to other colleges but I go to San Jose State University and it is pretty good. The reputation isn't really prestigious or anything, but the teachers are great. The other thing is that they are fairly affordable. Any source of higher education is better than none in my opinion. Also, the teachers are what make learning the ultimate success and you will find an assortment of good and bad at most universities.

Most of the California colleges are among the top in the nation. But that also means that they are very costly. Even some of the Community colleges are right up there with some university's, but they are way cheaper.

They are Great!! Their are handfuls of fabulous State CA colleges. I grew up in CA and still live here...I went to a University but a lot of my friends went to Long Beach State University, my dad went there, and it is really a great school.

Steven Speilberg just graduated from the film school/program that LB state has...because he thinks it is the best school...so go figure??

San Diego State is good too!!!

Yes, Berkeley especially is an excellent school. Grad programs vary but are excellent at many UC schools.
