The same as the difference between vegetarians and auto mechanics.

Islam is a religion. Muslims are those who follow that religion. There are fundamentalists, traditionalists and moderates. There are those who live in the middle east, in India and Pakistan, in England, in the US. There are those who follow strictly, and those who dabble, and those who no longer practice. What culture do they all have? No single culture. Instead, each person or small group has a mix of their religion, and the surroundings, just like almost everyone else.

What is American culture? Are you trying to tell me that a 60-year-old Conservative Baptist in Kentucky looks at the world the same was as a 30-year-old Jewish Democrat from Oregon? Or a 20-year-old gang member from New York?

There is no single American culture. America has literally thousands of large cultural groups, with each cultural group based on geography, age, religion, ethnicity, etc. Within and beside those there are literally millions of other sub-cultures.

Trying to compare everyone who belongs to a single religion to everyone who lives in a country this large is not possible. It's like trying to compare all practitioners of Christianity worldwide (regardless of sect or denomination) against the entire population of Europe. It's a meaningless comparison.

I think a lot of the answer lies within the question - Muslim being a religion, and America being a country. Muslims hail from many nations with varying degrees of national identity. Americans hail from the USA with various religions. At their core, Americans are about freedom, and Muslims are more restricted in their choices.

i'm not 100% about this, but i used to date this guy who is muslim. i know they have mandatory religious things, like praying a certain amount of times per day at certain times in certain ways. also, they are supposed to refrain from alcohol/nicotine/drug use. polygamy is also permitted, although many muslims only have 1 wife (this may be because I was told that the wife has to give permission...and this would mainly be for women who have trouble conceiving)

because america has so many different religions, prayer is not mandatory and our laws are for the most part not religion-based. alcohol and nicotine are allowed (over 21 and 18, respectively) but other recreational drugs are not. and polygamy/bigamy is illegal.
