With as cheap as components are, it's easier just to build a new machine. If you are not sure how, there are many articles on the internet and it is quite easy for anyone. It would probably be a cheaper to build a new machine to your own specs then to upgrade out of date components. Typically the performance upgrade you would get would not be worth the money spent. Check out www.newegg.com for components. I build high end gaming and server platforms form medium sized enterprises and have used newegg on many occasions.

The important thing about buying a new processor is to find out how many pinns the Motherboard has for the CPU. You can then search for CPUs that have the same number of pinns as your motherboard as most should be compatible as long as they are not too new. You'll have to research your motherboard maker's website for information on what CPUs are compatible.

Asus is one such motherboard company for example.

You can also likely overclock your computer a bit by going into the bios of the system but I would reccomend reading more on how to to that to prevent breaking your computer.

You may require a motherboard bios update prior to installing a new processor should one be available for your processor socket type.
I would find out the make and model of the board, find out what it can handle and make my decision based on that. At some point the hassel isn't worth the little extra cash.

That sounds like it might predate Thunderbirds. Right, basically you're going to need a whole new motherboard, new memory, new powersuppply, new graphics card... new everything. It's too far out of date to even consider upgrading. Well, you COULD "upgrade" it by gutting it and replacing it with all new components.

You can upgrade to a 1.0 gig processor and with PC100 ram you can use PC133 also.
