What world are you living in? 99.5% of babies die of SIDS?! The actual number is 1-2 per *thousand*. 80% of mothers do not drink, do drugs, or smoke, either. While smoking (cigarettes, not marijuana) does increase the risk of SIDS, drinking and drugs do not. And, in *both* of your rooms, you will probably not have a single death. Death rates among babies are expressed in numbers per thousand, not per 50. You must really like to hear yourself type!!

Most researchers now believe that babies who die of SIDS are born with one or more conditions that make them especially vulnerable to stresses that occur in the normal life of an infant, including both internal and external influences. SIDS occurs in all types of families and is largely indifferent to race or socioeconomic level. SIDS is unexpected, usually occurring in otherwise apparently healthy infants from 1 month to 1 year of age. Most deaths from SIDS occur by the end of the sixth month, with the greatest number taking place between 2 and 4 months of age.
A SIDS death occurs quickly and is often associated with sleep, with no signs of suffering, . More deaths are reported in the fall and winter (in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres) and there is a 60- to 40-percent male-to-female ratio. A death is diagnosed as SIDSonly after all other alternatives have been eliminated: SIDS is a diagnosis of exclusion.

please tell me where your stats are from...because first of all, if 99.5% of babies died every year from sids, the human race would be irradicated. Second, where is your stat about 80% of mothers? If that were the case, then the american association of pediatrics SURELY wouldnt say that alcohol is COMPATIBLE with breastfeeding. Look it up for yourself. They do. and where do you get your stats about 30 out of 50 babies dying if their mothers were smokers? or had an occasional alcoholic beverage? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? If that were true, then your stat about 99.5% of babies born would die of sids would be correct...you are outrageous. Dont get me wrong, I am not advocating that breastfeeding moms go out and start drinking a quart of vodka a day and smoking crack and 4 packs of cigs a day, but you are just making stuff up that just is not based on any fact! PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU RUN YOUR MOUTH!!!

SIDS has nothing to do with the moms drinking or smoking! Anyone's baby can die from SIDS even moms who don't drink or smoke!

reasons that a child die from SIDS have not been tied down to one single factor...you'd do well to study it ...ther are several factors that can play in..it is a bit random...
