What about public transportation like the bus? Are there any stores that she can walk to and work at? She can advertise for babysitting. Loan her the car only for job related issues. I wouldn't give her any money unless it was for something important. If she gets a job close by, offer to give her rides there until she get her own car.
What the hell Dr. Richard? You should be reported, you didn't answer the question, you used it to advertise your web page.

I wouldn't give her ANY MONEY unless she earned it. If she isn't working but wanting hand outs from you and her mom, she should have to at LEAST earn what you give her. She can start by doing basic jobs around the house (laundry, dishes, cleaning, dusting, etc. and outdoors too...raking leaves, pulling weeds, watering plants, cleaning cars, painting, etc.). If she knows there is no other way to get money for her personal use, maybe she would rather look outside the home for an income.
If transporation is a problem, is there a grocery store or anything within walking distance (that would be under five miles)?? If not, she could certainly offer babysitting to neighbors, as well as all the jobs above in and around the home to elderly neighbors.
I know of young mothers that would LOVE to have a "mother's helper" a few times a week. Someone to clean up around the house, fold clothes, take kids to the park, etc.
If she just can't do any of these things, she should then at the very least VOLUNTEER to help at a senior center, hospital, church, etc. just to get her out of the house and doing SOMETHING that would at least help others.
Eventually she'll want her own money and her own car and if she knows the only way to GET those things is to work for them, she will!!!
I'd stay away from internet jobs though. If she's a good TYPER, perhaps she could get a job typing papers for students. There are other possibilities using computer skills too....making flyers, typing resumes for others, doing research.
Right now it seems you and her mom are really enabling. You're giving her the use of your cars AND cash, but getting nothing in return. You two ladies need to get back in control of the situation.
Good Luck!!

Your best bet is to help her get a job around where you live and you/her mom suck it up for a while and drive her. Odds are she can find someone at work who can take her to work/pick her up for gas money. After some time working she'll be able to get her own car. She just needs some help getting on her feet, so if you and her mom can - give her a ride where she needs to go for a while.

I agree with you that she needs to work to make her own money. Have you considered car pooling with her? Taking and picking her up from work will be such a huge help to finding a job for her. If neither you or her mother can help get her to and from work, suggest that she take public transportation. Most buses cost no more than $1going one way, with many cities offering monthly bus passes.

How about yard work for the neighborhood or helping a elderly lady in the neighborhood with chores or cooking.
