A good friend of mine was an active heroin addict for many years, and had a few felonies and did some jail time as well-she went to 40 detoxes/drug treatment programs before finally getting clean. She got her record sealed, then went to nursing school, got her R.N. and now she is coming up on 20 years of recovery. She has been a Director of Nurses (in extended care)for the last 5 years, and is great to her employees as well as her residentsShe also was a single mom with twins who are now adults. She is a huge power of example to me!She is still active in a 12 step program and helps out alot of other women. She remembers where she came from and is very down to earth, too.

yes, me. I have a felony conviction for drug possession. After a trip through the courts that ended up with me on probation for five years, and monstrous fines, etc... I went into rehab for one month. Following that, I applied for and was accepted into Arizona State University, where I totally kicked ***, receiving my undergraduate degree in journalism in three years, all the while working (at a gas station), and being a single mom to my son who was five when I went back to school. I am now the editor of a newspaper. I love my job, I make a good living. Anyone can do this if they have the desire and strength to make the necessary changes. It is not always easy. The rewards are worth it. Tip: Choose a field where a felony conviction will not be as important. Sobering up and facing my problems was the main thing.

My good friend, (Whom we'll call Alvin), went to prison for being involved with a fifteen year old when he was nineteen. He did 13 years. He got out, went first to community college, then a major university. Graduated and now he has his BA in Business Finance, and works for a large company that makes cereal. He did the community college while on Parole, then the major university when off. But he has been there at the company for about four years. So, it is possible, but it is an up hill struggle. Plus, he has to register as a sex offender, which doesn't make it any easier.

I did a crime that could have been charged as a felony and I did time just a little though. Now 5 years later I turned my life around and I am going to college with set goals. If the person believes in themselves and there are poeple to incourage them in the right direction it can be done
I hope this helps

I know many people that have gotten felony recorders and turned their whole lives around. Many are in recovery, from drugs/alcohol-- They went to meetings, changed the people that their allowed to be around them, and they started to go to new places, and left the old ones alone. They went back to school, studied better and got involved in the community that they live in. I know people that have their own clinics now, Masters degrees, and to include myself who just graduated with a BA in Social Work

How about Chuck Colson? He went to prison for funny business in Nixon's administration. Now he is a famous author and runs a prison ministry to try to turn other peoples lives around. Not bad, huh?

ya kinda when i was down and out in Arizona the shelter i was in made it mandatory for us to go to a job placement class. that let us stay up to six months in the shelter. it was for anyone as long as they were in the shelter. then i learned a lot from a program in Ohio too. to get your welfare checks there you have to go to a class. between the 2 a lot of felons were able to get back on their feet. a couple of buddies of mine were that way one got job making cabinets. the other started his own mobile car wash. you just gotta seek help. try your welfare system
