It is true that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I am 26 years and have 3 boys, 1, 4, 8; my last 2 I had at home with a midwife. I took castrol oil both times. PLEASE DO TRY THIS TOO EARLY! A babies lungs are not completely developed until a week before you deliver. But I will tell you a great trick to put you in labor. Put castrol oil in a chocolate milkshake, not much though. If you go to Mcdonalds or Wendy's its better. Eat as much pizza hut pepperoni pizza as you can. If possible go home and have sex and make sure not to pull out. I never got to the sex part, I always went into labor before then. It will make you go to the bathroom but i dont see this as a bad thing because when i didnt use castrol oil i pooped on the delivery table...so at least your bowels will be empty. It'll definitly be less embarressing. If you need more tips, let me know.

Castor oil will cause diarrhea. That much is true. Medical science hasn't really looked into whether or not it works to bring on labor. Yeah, yeah, we've all heard about someone that it worked for. But that's all anecdotal, coincidental evidence. I've never seen a good, scientific study.
But if it DID work, it would also leave you weak and dehydrated just when you need the most strength. (Dehydration can bring on contractions.)
I wouldn't do it.
Also, a big study came out last week that proved that sex doesn't bring on labor. In fact, it can actually DELAY it. No lie. Look it up for yourself if you like.
Best thing to do: let your baby come in his or her own sweet time.

sometimes is works sometimes is doesn't. I think a lot of those things are just old wives tales. I was told black licorice would do it because of something in it. I ate a ton of it (GROSS) and it didn't do anything but give me an upset stomach. I did some research on the web about the wives tales, and mostly they are all about 50/50. You could try it and be disapointed or be sucessful. But I would discuss it with your doc first you might now be ready for labor yet.

Yes, I was just talking to some nurses at my work the other day, and it does seem to be a safe way to do it, and a few people said it did work. But it's castrol oil not catrol.

yes, it does, but my doc told me that drinking caster oil will make the baby want to come out too quickly and this increases the chances of the cord being wrapped around the neck. Better to let nature take it's course and have a safer delivery. I have also heard of babies breaking their necks with the cord or choking to death.

Castor oil will cause diarrhea, and some people say that the intestinal cramps it causes could cause uterine cramps, and bring on labor.
But my OB/GYN always said, "You can't shake an unripe apple from a tree."

It is an old wives tale that it does help to start contractions, but I recently read that it is unsafe and also that it can make the beginning contractions must worse than if they would have started on their own!!
