the very best thing about marriage is communication and companionship. the understanding and sharing with someone who knows you better than you know yourself sometimes is an amazing thing. It's NOT a fairy tale.. there are a LOT of hard times and problems.. but the way you work them all out together is what makes things work. good luck to you and have a long happy life together.. and don't let anyone tell you that you are less because you choose not to have children. I admire the courage and the forethought it takes to know what you want. So many people SHOULD make that decision and don't. God Bless.

One of the best things I love about being married is that I have someone to go through life with me. Knowing you have someone by your side at all times - through the good and the bad is one of the best things. Memories are so much better with 2!

I think the best thing about being married ( i have been married for 15 years) is the intamacy between husband and wife. I don't mean the physical intamacy, but the emotional intamacy. Of knowing you have someone in this world who feels completely safe with you and you feel completely safe with them. Safe enough to share your deepest, darkest secrets, your troubles, your hopes and dreams; and knowing that there will be no ridicule, but a sincere person who listens and responds in a loving way.
It isn't always perfect, but it always strives to be. There is a verse in the Bible that I think clearly illustrates this point. It is:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails."
I don't think I can say it any better than that.
God bless you and congratulations on your marriage.

The best thing about being married is having someone close to you to rely on. My wife and I work as a team. Yet, there are times when we need each other's help. My wife was ill recently and I worked hard to do the things she was unable to do. Many years ago, I was hospitalized for a long while and she was there for me everyday. Husbands and wives are a team, best friends, and caregivers to one another. That's the best thing about being married.

Oh no, it is not the sex. It is building a life together, something of meaning. Its seeing how far your "team" can go in the game of life. It is being able to truly start over from scratch with someone, in a way. It is not having to worry about "will I be alone tonight". It is getting to see over the years how the relationship grows and changes. And it is wonderful in your day to day life, when you see your spouse and can say "Jackpot! I am really happy with this one!"
For me, I guess the BEST thing about being married is looking forward to the time when the kids are grown and you get to be alone together again to do whatever you want - and the deep beautiful friendship that you get to enjoy all along the way.
Peace!

year 1-5 is sex
5-10 creating a family (kids, pets whatever)
10-15 supporting each other when work, the world sucks
15-20 having someone to back you up at social functions
20-25 being comfortable enough in who you are to try something new.
The significant other says "I don't know, I can't think of anything, I just paid half the dental bill." " I had them double up on the rice, but not on the beans because I'm the only one who eats them"
Translation: having another person know your likes and dislikes, and taking care of each other.

The best thing about being married is when you see your husband/wife smile and you fall in love again...
and when you hold hands and you find yourself secretly wishing the two of you were sewn together...
and when after a fun day together you wish the two of you could live on an island where it would just be the two of you together forever!...

RE:
What is the best thing about being married?
I'm getting married in a month and I want to know the best thing about marriage (and don't say "having kids," because we're childfree and we won't be having any!).
