Ethanol is being produced. It just depends on which part of the country you live in, its largely produced in the N.E.
Ethanol has been in production since 1985 producing 175 million gallons, and now in 2005 producing 3,904 million gallons.
The US produced 4,227 million gallons of Ethanol last year alone.

Never I hope...there is not enough suitable land in the whole world to meet 100% of the world's needs. I think 100% reliance on another source is not a better idea than what we have now.
Ethanol production at it’s highest ever was 2 billion gallons in 2002. That’s roughly 7 gallons per year per person. How do we go from 7 gallons per year to 1.5 gallon per day per person? I don't know.

Hmmm.... there are problems with switching to ethanol. It takes a good deal of energy to produce it.

We likely wont ever make the switch. Ethonal is expensive to produce and until they find a way to make it cheaper (and without goverment subsidies) they likely will never profit from it.
