well back then when AC/DC and Led Zeppelin and all the others. they were consider heavy metal because that's how hard the technology can go. now that there is more technology it can be more heavy.

Exactly!!!
Rock has evolved - Heavy Metal back then is not the same as it is today!
Kind of like the television and what they would allow on television. There was a big up roar back in the 60's about the I Love Lucy show and how Lucy and Ricky where in the same bed, so they had to give them twin beds to calm everyone down!
Heavy Metal Today is more comparable to Acid Rock like Slipnot!
The trail blazers for them was Black Sabbath and Merilyn Manson!
That's why it's so much harder now a days!
I use to think Metallic was hard, but compared to some bands now a-days, they are just rock!

It depends on where u shop. Places like Wal-mart, Target, K-mart etc label bands like AC/DC and Zeppelin along with some Metallica and believe it or not, Winger, as heavy metal. I'm 32 and have been a long time fan of Rock/metal.
There are different types of Metal: Industrial like Ministry, Gravity Kills and some Marilyn Manson and even Techno mixes like White Zombies Super Sexy Swinging Sounds.
Death Metal: Slayer, Napalm Death, some Savatage, Deicide etc. Sepultura I have found in Hard Rock at the Wherehouse along with Motorhead. I've even found Rage Against the Machine in Rock and Rap.
Good luck and Rock on, Brother.
It must be cause I'm old because I've found G N R in the clasic rock section of one store.

because back in the day thats all they had. it was the hardest. people even thought acdc and zep were satanic. though i've always considered stuff like zep and g&r as straight up rock and roll. most of the "satanic" stuff you're hearing is Black Metal and Death Metal (there're more subgenres i'm sure). the big change in the sound of heavy metal is attributed to the further advancement of distortion pedals and vocal affects processors. you may think it sounds evil and much different from the classic heavy metal bands, but when so-called "satanic" bands like Cradle of Filth and Emperor play a venue, watch their fans. The fans react in the same way AC/DC's and Led Zepellin's fans did in their prime: they go ******* wild. That's why its okay to lump them in the same category.

There are different genres.....AC/DC and those types of bands were like the original metal bands...more often referred to as Hard Rock....your satanic/aggressive metal bands are more typically Heavy Metal/Thrash Metal/Death Metal

BECAUSE TIMES CHANGE.
what is rock now isn't the same is rock in the 50s, or 80s.
I don't think Zeppelin is metal AT ALL, guns n roses isn't either but i guess ALITTLE and sort of ac/dc, but they're mostly hard/classic/bluesy rock.

Those bands you've mentioned were at once considered heavy metal. However, as music progressed we began to classify those bands as classic rock. That "satanic" stuff is often called death metal.

You've apparently never listend to Judas Priest, or Dio, or Ozzy/Black Sabbath, or Iron Maiden, Slayer, Anthrax, Metallica. THEY were heavy metal and supposedly "satanic." Today's bands are milquetoast compared to what the 70's and 80's offered.
