well I'm not sure of the name of the fish but my father used to work for a rich man that had saltwater fish that were worth 50 thousand dollars each.

People show fish, just like they show dogs. You've heard of dog shows, right? Some koi go for thousands of dollars. I have seen goldfish go for up to $899 but I know they can be more expensive than that.
People who collect high quality fish will pay for that sort of thing. A friend of mine just bought a $400 black and white ryukin goldfish.

Actually though, there is a Asian Arowanas, which the baby red can go for $1000-$2000. And it's freshwater.
