My friend just bought this vehicle and asked me to do a tune-up for him. He needs a list of what to purchase. Thank you for any help.

Oil filter, 4-5 quarts of oil (check manual for what weight) air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires cap and rotor and that should do ya. All of which u can find at your friendly neighborhood auto parts store

Parts would be oil filter, air filter, spark plugs. I'd be more concerned with fluids, change the oil, flush the coolant, bleed the brakes, flush the transmission fluid depending on mileage (60,000 or more miles I'd do it). While bleeding the brakes inspect the pads, CV Joints (see if they are properly lubricated). Take the wheels into get balanced and rotated, possibly an alignment. Lube the door hinges with lithium grease, check the A/C's freon level. I would say thats everything to do a complete "tune up".

A checkbook and a pen.

If you don't know what parts you need, then you certainly don't have the know how it takes to do a tune up on a modern car.

First off, you need a computerized diagnostics center and the experience (and preferably a certicification class or two under your belt) and know how to use it. Not to mention the tools and parts which you don't even know about yet.

You will most certainly spend more trying to save money by doing it yourself, because when you find that you have messed it up beyond all repair, it'll need towing, so you will pay twice, maybe more to correct the damage you did. Working on cars is not for the home garage mechanic anymore, so save yourself time, money, frustration and more money by taking it to a mechanic.
