I smelled something and I thought it was this new tar or something, but when I left the area I was at, my right front tire area had smoke coming out of it.

I stopped the truck and there was a little smoke coming out and I decided to go to a gas station where I stopped it again it looked like it was coming from the left side. I went down the road a bit more and after I stopped again the smell/smoke stopped.

What was the problem? Did I burn my tires, or my breaks, was it my engine -I put coolant when I got home....? WHAT?!

Yeah, it was kind of hot, and I was in the booming city of Bangor, Maine today...so I had to frequently stop. And there was an accident on 95 so I had to keep braking

First of all, the obvious.....You put coolant in, if you put alot (gallon) that was probably the problem. If you only put in a little, it wasnt your problem. Was your tire low and you driving 30 mph or faster? if so that was your problem. Dont think it was your brakes, because you said it smelled like rubber, thus its either tires or water, and low water in the radiator can overheat and make the hoses hot and smell like rubber heated too.

Sounds like a severe over heat problem, but how about your brakes, did they get stuck on? the tar smell you describe does not sound like coolant.

sounds like your caliper may have locked up it kinda like driving with your e-brake on have the pads checked by a professional to see if they have been scorched they leave tell tale discolored spots in the pads and sometimes on the rotor it's a good place to start

Well ,if your check engine light comes on it's an emissions problem.
