I think theaters are pricing theirselves into extention. My local theater raise their price of a matinee to $5.50 just in time for the summer movie run. They have raise the price about a dollar in the last year and a half. There is a drive in that I would go to if the gas prices weren't so high, than I could see 2 movies for $5. But why should I waste my money. Hollywood is making more crap every year. All they care about is making a million. Now movies don't have the "legs" they use to. If they don't make their money in the first 3 weeks of release it is all over.
Movies move to dvd so much faster than they use to. About 3 months now. I pick what movies I will see at the theater (Cars, Superman, Pirates of the Caribbean), and the rest I wait for dvd. I can reat a movie at Movie Gallory for $1.49 and get it for the whole day. Or wait a month and buy it for $7.50. I got patience. And lets not even talk about the concession prices. I got soda and popcorn at home. Good question.

No, there's just certain movies that need to be seen on the big screen AT the theater. Comedies, you won't miss much watching at at home. Action movies, I think you need the giant screen and the total surround sound. Plus, most people can't afford to have that "theater experience" at home.

No. The only thing that will probably replace it (or close enough to it), would be screen projectors with a home theater system.

I hope not I love to go to the theater. But I also love to watch movies at my house as well. But I want to have that choice. Plus I love movie theater popcorn :)

I used to think so, but now I realize that attending movies is such a traditional social outlet that it will continue, especially in suburbia.
