first of all, I love the name Tamara! that's the name I chose for a character in one of my stories.
anyway, enough digression.
I don't think rock or rap is necessarily bad, I think it's the content artists put into the songs that make them bad.
i personally don't like either since both usually promote hate via racism, money, or perverted lyrics. Plus they are just not my style.
If rock or rap has offensive lyrics, i wonder about the overall character of the listener. why do people want to listen to cursing, degrading things about women (like in eminem's trash and most rap songs I've heard really drag women through the mud)
But the music styles themselves are not bad.
Many are even uplifting and inspirational.
For the most part though, people associate music with the people who listen to it most.
example: rock is usually what you'd imagine someone with a lot of anger listening to.
I listen to new age, contemporary christian and classical music, which for some reason often labels me as gay to some people.
But I'm not gay, just like everyone who listens to rap is not a "gangsta."
Sorry to have wrote so much!
in closing, there are no really evil music styles, only evil songs that fall into the categories.
Take care, God Bless.

Keep in mind that in his day, parents found Elvis's dancing obscene.
Before hip hop became popular, parents didn't want their kids listening to rock n' roll. But the parents now are the ones that grew up on rock, so that's generally what they prefer.
However, your music has had an effect on you. Look at that paragraph you just typed! All choppy, incorrect, and written lazily...just like rap. I hate rap because I find most of it woefully unintelligent. I hate any rock music that is unintelligent as well.

Ever since before Elvis and the Beatles, older generations complained about the music their teenaged kids were listening to.
Realize that although you are a bright, motivated person, some people out there are influenced by what they hear in the songs and see in the videos.
It is the parents' responsibility to teach the children to be discerning consumers of mass media. I have always listened to my son's music, and watched TV with him and discussed how they relate (or don't relate) to real life.

well everyone says that rock is bad too. it just depends on where you live i guess. i live in utah and no one mentions about how bad rap is, it's all about how rock is corrupting the children's minds. but if you think about it in now-a-day terms compared to the past, then it's just the same thing. parents or adults try to look for reason and excuses that the children are acting up. today it's music, but back then it was new ideas. like Socrates, they blamed him for the kids acting up and stuff. only it wasn't really him, they just needed someone or something to blame. it isn't nessisarily the thing they say is bad itself, but the people that are saying it's bad. all they need is something to blame and today it's music. altho i'd like to point out that they don't think country is bad, which i think is stupid! cause (no offense) i hate country, most of what they talk about is how much they lose, rock and rap talk about how much they gain.

Because Rap promotes Drugs, Violence, and degrading women. Also, it takes almost NO musical talent to make a rap song. Therefor, there really isn't any redeeming qualities to it, and I wish it could be wiped off the face of the earth.
PS: Heavy Metal kicks Rap's sorry *** any day.

people just stereotype everything. usually rappers come from the worst parts of the crappiest cities. they were usually involved in gangs and stuff. parents just dont want to accept responsibility for the fact that their child turned out like crap, so they blame their bad behavior on something else... people they hang out with, stuff theydo, other people in general or the music they listen to. its just a way of being lazy. i love rock but that doesnt mean im gonna turn into a pot smoking high school drop out flippin burgers down at wendys in a few years. im in all honors. stereotypes mean nothing so dont listen them.

i guess because in almost every rap song, they talk about sex, booze, drugs, and gettin high. just some, not every song. but most of them. And in their music videos, there are usually skimpy dressed girls dancing and touching each other.
With that one guy all the way. Rock is Better.

First off, you need to learn how to type/spell.
Second, rap is MUCH worse than rock. This is a stereotype that is quite true. It promotes people, stealing, prostitution, etc.
