First of all, this is not David Blaine. It's Criss Angel in a clip from his TV show Mindfreak on A&E. As for how it is done, I can't say 100% for sure. Glass just under the surface of the water, a possibility. Or maybe he is suspended with wires from an overhead crane, it's hard to tell because the video quality is so poor. My best guess is that it is a combination of methods and through the "magic" of editing (seeing that there are many convienient camera cuts) pieced together to look like one seamless video. In the long shots, there is definate weight to his walk, that is where he is most likely walking on the glass. The reason you don't see the glass just beneath the surface is due to a little thing called the Fresnel effect. This means that when viewed from glancing angles, water, glass, etc becomes more reflective than when viewed head on. Go ahead, try it with a car window. In all the long shots, the camera is at this glancing angle, so you see the reflection of the water that covers the underlying glass. I know what you're thinking, what about the POV shots? Well, in his POV shots, first of all, he doesn't posses the same weight that is exhibited in the long shots. It looks more like he is floating above the surface rather than walking on it, hence this is where he is suspended with wires. His back foot starts to pick up before his front foot is even planted. Since he is looking directly into the water, the Fresnel effect allows you see straight through, meaning the glass is gone. And yes, everyone around are actors. I mean how convienient, one girl swims right underneath him as it cuts to a POV shot, well scripted.

It will have been him, he's a very talented guy & he's pulled many other pretty amazing stunts - but if I knew the answer, I'd be as rich & famous as he is.

To the previous answerer, just after 1 minute into the video, one of the 'paid actors' walks straight through this sheet of glass. I don't doubt for 1 second it's an illusion, but there's a lot more to it than that.

That's not David Blaine, it's Criss Angel and he's awesome. Check out his website Crissangel.com or his tv show, which is on A&E on Wednesday nights.

I don't believe the other people in the pool were paid actors. His whole thing all these years has been "Street Magic". Just walking up to people on the street and doing an illusion right in front of them. I still remember his early days of TV Specials and I was amazed. I watched this video and can't even begin to tell you how he does it but it blew my mind.
