If you have Windows XP, you go to Start Menu, Control Panel, Network and Internet Connections, then Network Connections. If you have a wireless card in the laptop, you will see a "wireless" icon named "Wireless Network Connection". If you don't see the icon, it doesn't necessarily mean that you do not have wireless capability on the laptop, but it could mean that the wireless card has been deactivated. Most laptops with built-in wireless cards have a switch somewhere on the laptop that will turn the wireless card on/off. Remember that you will also need a wireless gateway device to connect to if you want to use your wireless Internet connection, not just a cable modem!

You can check your laptop if it has a wireless card inside by going to the device manager tool, or you can check/view your network place connection and see the available networks in your window... by the way what is the model of your laptop? so that i can look for it thru Internet.

Read your manual or call the software or hardware support person. Call the store and /or
e-mail the manufacturer with the make and model number. If it's a laptop, it's sure to have one. If it's a big box-maybe not. When you are ready for the cable connection people, call them and they will walk you through the process. They can tell if you have one or not.
If not, they will sell you one and install it at your home.
Also use Google (computer model number etc)

The easiest way is to look for a switch along the outer edge of the case. It is small, and when the power is turned on an amber light will glow.

Look on the laptop to see if it has an Intel Celeron chip. Most of the time that will be your best indicator.
Otherwise, check your system specs.
