to ask the question "are we real" or better yet "do we exist" we must exist to ask the question.

No we are words on a computer screen at the moment. they are real. We are perceived or imagined.

As for question two, you could be sleep walking, this could be a dream, and it could be real at the same time. You never know. Does it matter? Would you act any different if it were all a dream? Probably not. Dreams reflect life and vice versa.

Third question: Because it is. You recognize that it is real, label it real and then ask yourself why you did what you did, because you did it and that is that. I didn't do it. I am words on a screen. You are reading me. I am not reading me. I just am. If I were something else then I would be something else. Something is because it is, if it's not it is something else, Aristotle's Law of Contradiction.

Question four: Look back at question three - "Why" and "What for" are the same thing. Spanish "Porque'?" - for what? It is also because, reflexive don't you know.

Now accept this words for what they are and when you wake up you will no longer smoke cigarettes or crave candy or alcohol.

In this reality we are real, we go to work we eat sleep, and yes go to the bathroom.
But our souls are not confined to this reality.
Our souls are curious, and creative and go into different realities all the time.
It is constantly telling you about things just with our every day problems we don't always listen.

Thats how you can get a creepy feeling when your alone in a hallway, or you have dreams that you could have sworn were real. And yes even Deja Vue is a result of our souls reaching out into different realities and time as we see it

I've read in the bible that walking in the spirit is more real than walking in the flesh. Don't know if you believe in that but I know what you're feeling.
Sometimes everything feels like a big dream. You must be experiencing a revelation of your own. Nothing seems real so something obviously is and in time will reveal itself to you.

I think it is enough that we can feel, see, taste, smell, and hear. Whether this is a construct of some other being, or we exist on a physical plane, we still exist. If it is a dream, it's no less real than us sitting down to watch a movie.

Accept life and if you doubt it's reality, then make it better for all its fakeness.

Substitute for "reality" the term "Continuing, consistent, partially shareable sensory experience" and you have what a dream is not.

The matrix movie, and cults make a real effort to induce in simple individuals a "dissociative" experience in which reality is equated to a dream. This makes submission (and unethical acts toward others) easy. Psychopaths who are totally self-centered are good subjects for this.

when asking if we are real or exist one must realize that we can surely never know because what do we have to compare this reality or existence to other then what is given to us here where we may or may not exist...in any case if you look at it a certain way a dream does exist yes when u say i had a dream it was real once so perhaps whatever u define as real would answer your question

did you watch The Matrix. if not, it basically says that we are all dreaming this life that we are in, while our bodies are being kept by machines because the machines need our bioelectricity to survive. what happened is that humans and machines got into a war and scorched the sun. the machines won but couldnt survive without the sun, so they put us to sleep to draw out our bioelectricity to survive. when they put us to sleep they created the matrix which is a dream world that makes us believe that we still have our own lives and they did this so that we will not go to war with the machines again. everything that we sense are just electrical impulses going through our nervous system that the machines induce into us while we are actually asleep. hope i didnt scare you!!

All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
-Edgar Allen Poe

I also like the concept of dreams by Shakespeare in a Midsummer's Night Dream and of course Plato's thought and that of Freud, Nietzsche, Jung. All the greatest artists and philosophers felt much like you. You are in good company!

Of course we are real, pinch yourself real hard and see if it hurts. You really need to wake up out of your sleep or dream or fog, whatever it is. You need to find some purpose in your life and stop just drifting through it. You will feel much better.

Well, I believe that we are real.. in our world. but I also believe that there are many things we can't see, while we aren't that perfect... You've asked why... during all the ages people were looking for this answer... different religions state that we are here to serve the God or something like that. but if to think in biological way, we are just a progress of nature .
if you ever find the real answer - let the world know :)
