ACDC - just an awesome rock band, every song is single material
Led Zeppelin - best singer, best drummer, single handedly created heavy metal
Pink Floyd - don't even need to say anything, amazing band
Metallica - made hard metal mainstream, awesome singer, awesome guitarist
The Doors - all around awesome band up until Jim went home
Black Sabbath - They had Ozzie, enough said.

There's no definitive answer, unfortunately. Every rock music critic/rock music fan could have a different Top 10 list. Some people might list The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, REM, The Who, and so on. Some people might name much newer rock bands. Every generation has its musical heroes/and heroines.
