Depending on who you ask, it could be Yes or NO. Historically, Jewish (or Jew) had very negative connotations. This was based on religio-political reasons. It has been based (in the middle east) also in terms of laying claim to certain territory(s).
From the Ancient Egyptians through the Roman Empire, the Babylonian Empire through Germany's Third Reich, to the establishing of the state of Israel and the present, a Hatred of Jews (or the Jewish people) has persisted, not just in the middle East or Europe, but into the New world as well. Just the mention of the word Jewish has produced stereotypes and has even entered into our vernacular (IE; "cheap as a Jew" etc.)
While all ethnic groups have suffered stereotyping amongst other groups, it seems that it has been the bane of the Jewish people to have had their identifying ethnic/religious ethnicity met with so much disdain by so many.

Jewish is not a bad word. It's a name of a person who practices the Hebrew or Jewish religion.
But Jewish or Jew can be used as an insult.
"You filthy rotten Jew." (Don't worry, I practice the Jewish religion.)
But positive. : Are you Christian or Jewish? " I'm Jewish." That sort of thing.
Like many other things, it depends on the context of the words and how you interpret the word. If you looked up Jewish in the dictionary though, it would not be classified as a dirty word or insult to one who practices the religion.
