Not everybody is saying God created us.
Lots of people believe in evolution.
It is a big Universe out there - who
created that? Will we ever really know?

The error with this thought is in conceiving God to be a 'being' -- male or female or cluster of spagetti -- that created everything else. Eliminating this concept of a 'being' would help everyone understand God a little better.

It really depends on who you are asking. An orthodox monotheistic (i.e.: Christian, Muslim, Jewish, etc) answer would looks something like this. God is a being, wholly unlike us. God is not conceived as an entity to be fully understoond, not embodied, not gendered, not created. God is instead the source of creation, and is a being who chooses to engage with us, created beings, through God's own choice of self-disclosure. We are incapable of knowing this God on our own terms, and thus rely on God reaching toward us. This reaching is often understood in terms of covenant, or a loving relationship, in which God, as ultimate, eternal being reveals God's own self to us. The reason there are different views on God is that humans tend to view God differently. Much of these views are culturally bound, but for most religions, having as least a somewhat clear view of God's overtures toward us, is important to being in right relationship with that God.
The existence of God as some type of intelligent and creative being has been held by virtually all cultures throughout history. The complexity of the physical world has pointed humans toward a higher being who intelligently designed the world. Many brilliant scientists throughout the years, have rejected the idea of a disorderly beginning of our universe. A basic understanding of the interdependency of every human biological system, as well as the sheer number mutations that would be necessary simultaneously to simply cause a simple celled creature to fire neural synapses that would tell it to pump blood, much less duplicate intricate DNA, proves the mathematical impossibility of macro evolution as a viable theory for the existence of any complex celled organisms.
From that understanding of God as some type of creative being we then ask, "what does that mean?" Does God do anything beyond making things and walking away? From here there are complex theological answers in virtually every religion. Essentially, the question of how God operates now is an experiential as well as theological question. Most religious people indicate that their belief in God is closely tied to their experiences with God, often including unexplained recoveries, and emotional and psychological restoration through interaction with a community of faith. The existence of God, and God's character is something that is best explored by talking with people in religious traditions. These people can speak honestly about their own experiences. Your decision about what to believe about God should come from carefully looking at various belief systems, reading those religions' sacred texts, and finding what you believe to be true based on the ability of that faith to transform the lives of those who profess it. I propose this as a test because of the initial premise about God. If God is reaching toward us, then the religion that has it right is the one that is connecting with God in a way that changes the people in it, for the better. These people should be living consistent lives, should be seeking to help others, and should reflect the love of God in their lifestyles.
You should note that not everyone in a religion may live this kind of life. Be careful not to make your decision too hastily based on the fact that you met one or two people in a specific religion who were "hypocrites." We are all human, and we all need something called grace.
I pray that you will find truth in your journey, and I would love to hear back from you later.

Everything in creation is made of energy, down to our tiniest cell and farther. People, animals, rocks, trees, EVERYTHING. This is scientific proof. God is a mass, a collection of energy that always was in existence. We, and I mean all of human kind are extensions of that energy. In the book of Genesis, it is stated that we are created in the image and likeness of Him. Therefore, we are energy like Him, from Him of Him. The is no explanation of how He got here. He just always was.....mind boggling, huh?
