I remember the very first 3 were scary but what happened to the later ones and why aren't they as scary?

In short, John Carpenter wasn't directing them. Also, they're sequels, so they're bound to run out of tricks.

Although Carpenter did do H20, which was pretty good, from what I've read.

The first one was an excellent, classic horror movie.

The second was a respectable sequel and should have ended the series.

You liked the third? The third was crap, but they had the right idea in not making it about Michael Meyers.

4, 5, and 6 just tried to recreate the atmosphere of the first one POORLY and were mostly just money making ploys.

7 and 8 tried to be terrible Scream-clones for dumb teenagers.

There was barely enough plot for the first one, let alone a whole slew of sequels. The original was an excellent, atmospheric, almost impressionistic horror film. The rest had nowhere to go.

Well let's see why the others' weren't scary:
- they cast LL Cool J in Halloween H20.
- it's a very typical scenario nothing new
- how man Halloweens have been done? get the hint?
- not enough gore

Lackluster writing, no John Carpenter, predictable plot plus all the other films of that genre (Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street, etc). The market was over saturated.

Same thing as any franchise. After so many it becomes a joke. BUT...A remake is coming. Written and directed by...Rob Zombie. It is more of a "re-visioning" of the original, but will also start an entirely new chapter for Michael Myers.

I guess with any sequels it eventualy gets old. different producers different writers never the same good stuff.
and what about the 3rd one "season of the witch" that doesnt even have anything to do with Michael Myers. My child watched part2 and it scared her bad. I got a kick of it. Iknow we'll have a michael myers in our family for halloween this year.

They kept using the same plot for all the movies: he goes out and tries to kill his family...woo.. Rob Zombie is directing the new one but this time his goal is supposed to be different. He hasn't said yet what the new plot is.

The others didn't seem as scary to you because you got older and you are not scared as easily. Theoretically anyway!!!

None of them were scary. I laughed through the first two...didn't bother with the rest.

Also you might have become "used" to them, so they didn't shock you.
