Republicans are blind & just dosnt understand...
Imagine.......
A big earthquake with the strength of 8.1 on the Richter
scale hits Mexico.
Two million Mexicans have died and over a million are
injured.
The country is totally ruined and the government doesn't
know where to start with asking for help to rebuild.
The rest of the world is in shock.
Canada is sending troopers to help the Mexican army control
the riots.
Saudi Arabia is sending oil.
Other Latin American countries are sending supplies.
The European community (except France) is sending food and
money.
The United States, not be outdone, Bush is sending two million
replacement Mexicans.
God Bless America.

Not a lot of people do believe him anymore. He's made a lot of missteps in his second term.
But to answer your question: Politics is all about look and feel, not really about bread-and-butter issues. Bush' s media image is aimed squarely at white suburban and rural families, all God-and-the-Flag and apple pie. His message is intentionally meant to pander to them, and his ace-in-the-hole is gay-bashing. Also, a lot of what he says is code; references to Scripture passage and what not. That message has been wearing thin as of late. I think Bush has lost the NASCAR-WWE crowd. His "believers" now consist of the upper one percent, the evangelical crowd which is getting a little shaky, and the Kool-Aid drinking Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh audience determined to go down with the ship.
And to answer an earlier rhetorical question from above--Yes we have been attacked a few times since 9/11. The most prominent of these are the Anthrax Attacks of late 2001 now conveniently erased from the collective memory of the Bush supporting crowd.

Bush is a likeable person who is also a great salesman. He has the advantage of having KKKarl Rove, the greatest political strategist ever.
It took the majority of Americans over 4 years to finally realize that W is a habitual liar who doesn't have their best interests at heart unless trhey are among the wealthiest 1%.

Bush is stupid. But the democrats are evil. Since it is a choice between stupid and evil, Bush wins by default. The difference is the republicans will eventually field candidates that are smart and reflect the will of the people. The democrats will still be evil.
