December is a definite Christmas, red and green month. Decorate for Christmas, but keep the cheesy and tacky decorations in the closet until after the party (oh come on, you know we all have some)

I would go with winterwonderland (if you are not into the obvious Christmas choice). Use an ice motif in your decoration.
You could have silver, blue and white ornaments and decorations.
Or you could go with a poinsetta theme -- burgandy and green with yellow and orange accents. Roast chestnuts and use them to keep warm.
Or throw it all over and have a LUAU! That's what you need in the middle of winter is to forget the cold!

Indoor snow party. Use paper balls for a snowball fight. People of all ages love snowball fighting but some just can't handle the cold. Make some homemade showglobes. Plenty of websites on how to make them and fairly inexpensive.
