Rap music is still popular because of the whole idea of trying to relate to a struggle that most will never know. I hate to say rap music is no more, just listen to the rappers' lyrics. They've turn powerful words of the forgotten into garbage.

I feel your question you have asked isn't idealistic because if you dig deep into the lives of many families the really don't differ from those of a rapper. A rapper is some one who uses there life experiences and compiles a song to express his life. You cant tell me that rap music doesn't relate to those lives of others. I beg of you to listen to a rap song and really listen, its only a story being told by a wounded and usually hurt soul searching for hope and dreaming of dreams, and that one day they will be heard...and if rap music too you seems irrelevant then i feel sorry for you.

your wrong and now you got me pissed. rap relates to a lot of people and you need to come to the heart of rap city to see the bull$hit that people are going through these days. Life isn't all about you help me i help you. Naw people here in the ghetto have to find our own way to make money and yeah some of us sell drugs, but that's the way we support our families. And yeah we do drop out of school a lot but we still much it through life with our heads ten miles high. Yeah some girls do have babies at the age 13 but how many people do you know that go to school rise a child and work??? Rap gives us a way to be something that most people are afriad to be, and most people won't support rap, but you know I'm not most people. I rather be hated for what i am, than loved for what i'm not, I learned that from the rap game. So all you people who talk **** about rap, your just afraid of what you don't understand, and you don't what it's like to fight for your life. GHETTO CHICK AND DO YA GOTTA PROBLEM WITH DAT ???

Apparently there are quite a few "haters" out there. It you listen to the lyrics, you will find that this genre does indeed relate directly to life experiences. As in the past with the spirituals of slavery times, Rap vividly depicts the issues, trials and successes of the African American experience. The ever present percussive beat resonates within us all.

Its popular because so many white suburban kids love the idea of a gangster, and rappers usually come from that livestyle.
With rappers like 50 Cent and The Game preaching about being so gangster, being shot, stabbed, being young and rich, its a lifestyle to envy. Now kids want to dress and act like them, and 90% of the cd sales go to white kids.

its not stupid, that is an opinion pady. but it is popular because of the beats catchy hooks, a lot of people who like rap today don't actually listen to the lyrics. For example, Young Joc- Its Going Down, has a catchy chorus, a good beat, but terrible lyrics, but people go for the sound. A Good Rapper usually sends a message in his songs, like 2pac did, or Nas, or someone like that.

Because rap music is 1.) entertaining, 2.) imaginative, & 3) it plain old sounds good. Also rappers are very talented. They can come up with some crazy-*** hooks and string words together like nobody's business.

Because people WANT it to relate to their lives. It's like reading a fantasy book but easier.

did you interview these "many people" about rap music? if so i would like to see the interviews.
This is like me saying why is country music so big when all the songs are about their dead dog and their wife leaving them?
Just because you don't like a certain does not mean that others don't.
