The answer depends on you. You have two choices Heaven or Hell, because both are real places. And we will all go to one or the other place depending on whether you excepted Jesus Christ as your Savior or rejected Him. What will your choice be?

Yes, What makes us uniquely us, our personalities survives death. We can reincarnate, we can just enjoy heaven (or whatever you call paradise) or we can choose to remain in limbo and be a ghost til we're ready to do something else.
Being a ghost is a choice usually, either because you want to wait on a loved one to join you (like a spouse or an elderly parent) or you feel that you've been a terrible person and crossing into the light is going to take you to hell rather than heaven (better to delay it in that case) or maybe you are just very attached to things in this world like your home and don't want to leave it behind. All of those are some of the reasons someone would choose to become a ghost.
Reincarnation is also a choice.
What happens to us after we pass physically is based on our choices just like they are in this life. If you make bad choices you will struggle and not be as happy and peaceful as someone who makes good choices. And just like now there will be others who will try to help us with our decisions but in the end we will have to be the ones to decide for ourselves.

I see our physical body as something we inhabit for awhile then leave it. We are not our bodies. We are consciousness and can function with or without a physical vehicle. The reason we incarnate IMO is to explore and manipulate the physical universe.
I wasn't so convinced until I studied hypnotherapy as a healing modality to assist with pain control. More often than not, when I'd assist a client to uncover the cause of his/her pain, the client would begin explaining past lives. Many times the clients did not even believe in reincarnation but were soon describing events from long ago.
So I believe we leave the body and take a rest, much like going to sleep at night. After awhile we're drawn back to explore the physical universe once again.

Even if there is no event or destination semantically speaking there is not-living. Yes, many things will happen after I die. I am not THAT important to have the whole world cease to exist just because of my passing. I think either a short dormancy to normalize the Earth and undo all the human damage dealt or a big explosion.

Man has questioned that since the dawn of time...heh heh (i always wanted to say that) but anyway, i haven't found the answer in any religion, none of their fairy tales make sense or stand the scrutiny of objective science or reality.
Ive come to the conclusion that there is no "reason" or preordained purpose. We came from randomness and will go back into randomness. The chance meeting of one egg with one of a million spermazoa, and then death with our molecules returning into random nothingness.
Pretty dreary, when you think of the loneliness of no afterlife, but then maybe you'll try to make the most of what you can do during the short sojourn you have on this Earth.
What gets me, is that 80% of the Earth's population have a distorted worldview based on religion. Most scientists are atheists, not all, but most. And of the ones who believe in god, the astonomers are the fewest percentage.... that tells me something.

I have never understood why people don't believe that there is not a creator and that the creator has a plan for us. Have you been in the presence of a birth or have you ever planted something to watch it grow and bloom? Have you ever had a child or even a pet and watched their personalities grow and change? We are changing everyday and learning and someday when we are ready we will leave this world to another. It will be different and better because of all that we have learned in this life. For those who don't believe, I worry because they will have nothing but darkness and non-existence. How does one get faith if you haven't already? Who knows? My father recently went to the deathbed of a man that cried after my dad sang him a song. The man said he didn't understand faith until my dad sang the song to him and the spirit came upon him. He died in peace. I know when my great uncle was alive, I always felt a peace and calm energy because of his faith. I cannot deny life exists elsewhere. That would be selfish.

Life after death -- Why all the interest? Combine events like September 11th with the demographic phenomenon of the Baby Boom generation reaching its 50’s, and suddenly the reality of death from catastrophe and death from mere old age are upon us in a personal way.
So, it appears that more and more people are asking the same question that Job asked nearly 4,000 years ago in the Bible: "If a man dies, will he live again?" What could be a more fundamental question of life (and death)? Reincarnation theories are popular in Eastern religions as well as the many New Age variants. It seems people are comfortable with the idea of another chance to return to earth and figure things out or make things right. Some nihilist thinkers believe that death is the absolute end; but contrary to what many might think, most people believe that death is not the end. In some shape or form we go on.
When Jesus was talking with Martha about the death of Lazarus, her brother, He declared "I am the Resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Right here, Jesus started presenting the astonishing claim that there is life after death. Jesus then went the next step and brought Lazarus back to life after four days in a tomb. At that point, Jesus put everyone on notice that He would later overcome the grave Himself!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
For skeptics, the whole idea of heaven is just the product of fertile imaginations. For many others, the Biblical idea of heaven is too fanciful or fantastic. However, Christians can live their lives with bold hope, thanks to the evidence of history that establishes with convincing clarity how Jesus not only preceded us in death, but also came back from the dead and blazed the trail to heaven.
Life After Death: Proof?
Is there mathematical proof for life after death? No. But if you believe the life-changing evidence for God, Jesus and the Bible, then heaven is as much a concrete reality for you as the Lord in whom you’ve invested your absolute trust. It’s not fantasy – it’s the absolute life-changing hope that strengthens us and gives us peace.
"I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:12)
We all must have faith. What is faith? Hebrews 11.1 It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.

I don't just think, I know ...that there is an eternity after this life where our souls go. That eternity for each individual is determined by what choices we make in this life on earth. We have a free will to choose to love and obey God or choose not to. If we choose God then we can enjoy bliss and happiness eternally with him in Heaven, but if we remain stubborn to the end and reject God, then our souls may end up suffering eternally in the fires of Hell which is very scary if you think of it in terms of how long an eternity is. But just remember that God's love for us is so great that he sent His only Son, Jesus to die for our sins so that we can share our eternity in Heaven where there is no pain or suffering, just joy.

There is no death for the soul, well, when we die, soul leaves our body and joining in any other body, just like leaving the old clothes and wearing new clothes. Its all the drama run by the god we are the actors and we are also the spectators. Just act well, do justice to your role to get good role later.
