It's absolutely hilarious how you brits throw away your money on a bunch of overpaid, inbred gay monarchs who use it for their own personal leisure and comfort. They are a figurehead, that is true, but you waste millions of dollars on them every year and they do NOTHING for it except represent you, and badly, I might add. Why don't you vote for a government WITHOUT royals??
Laugh about Bush all you want (even though you SHOULD be laughing about Blair, like us), but he is at least representing a country that is the most powerful in the world.
The United States of America was founded by a few soldiers who didn't know what to do, against the best army in the world, and they won, thousands of miles away from their mother country. Is this a question or some assinine rant against the Royals. And you need to check your history because it was only at the end of the Revolutionary war (which was actually a civil war between transplanted Englishmen and those back in the mother country)
that the Americans started winning their battles. aND IT WASN'T A FEW SOLDIERS but professionals who were drilled by foriegn officers because most of the American officers save for Washington and a select few were either corrupt political appointees or grossly incompetent.
Then there was the French army which showed up to boost our manpower and they did it not because they liked Americans but because they still had a grudge to settle with the English from the Seven Years War.
And being the most powerful country in the world doesn't mean much when a 4 man terrorist cell can slip in and wreak havoc at their leisure.

the royal family have the important role of keeping the government honest if the English government try to pass laws that are detrimental to the English people the queen has the power to veto these laws protecting her subjects unlike the US system where laws are only made for the benefit of the wealthy business community. I suggest before you laugh at another country's politics you look at your own do you have free health care for all do you have free education for all does your country spend more of your tax dollars on its people, or on its endeavours to send tin cans into space has new Orleans been rebuilt yet and as for the US defeating the Brits during the war of Independence if the french had not been at war with the Brits at the time blockading British ships the outcome may have been different but the war with France was far more important than an unruly colony it was decided to end the war with France first then worry about the US colony however the war with France continued until it was no longer necessary to move back into the US

I'm not a Brit, so my answer is not biased by my nationality. Really, why the hell should you care? The royals are not going around starting wars. They couldn't even if they wanted to. They keep the royals because its part of their long and colorful history. While America only has just over 200 years of history and have defaulted any claim to more by way of its revolutionary war.
You say that,"The United States of America was founded by a few soldiers." You forgot to mention that the whole American effort during the revolution was bankrolled by the French...no money, no war. So America was founded by a few soldiers and the French.

why would we want to vote for a goverment without royals.... yes, its probably a huge waste of money every year, but have any of our royals ever been on national news after paying for sex like some people that have represented ur country?!
u have tried painting an ideal picture of the states and george bush, and happily slagged off our goverment and the fact that we have royals here, if its such a huge waste of OUR money then why is it that your country suffers with more terrorist attacks, higher crime, higher homelessness, abuse, and lots more where as ours isnt half as bad! perhaps your right, its time for change but only change needed is for you to wipe the $hit from your eyes and take a look at that picture cos its smudged!

Well its our money. our Royalty. our Heritage. And Our Queen is our Figure head. Do you suggest the UK have a President instead. No way that will happen. Not when we can see how the American Presidency has been working, or not working. Get your own figure head sorted out first then come back and complain. Tell me about it. But these days the Royals aren't important enough to stage a revolution for, we really can't be bothered, and at least they don't start wars, just rumours.
And we do laugh about Blair, but only in a bitter ironical way, while we're crying into our beer.
When I was in school, I knew someone like Bush, the most powerful boy in the playground, him & his mates. Nervy, violent and paranoid, he ended up in prison for GBH. That's what happens to ignorant, arrogant, bullies in the real world. Unfortunatly in politics they end up getting voted in for a second term.

my awnser is ,gis a go.my turn to be king, then yours next week,thats how much sense it makes.one day we will look back at how we kept them like gods, they are super clever ,what human would throw that life away, no wonder they keep hold of it tight as you like. they are not even the true royal family they were brought in with the gregorian calender under some very iffy circumstances .

Our royal family is very good value for money if, like all Americans, that is how you value things! Coming from a country with no history or understanding of tradition it is difficult for you to understand but the alternative of having someone like 'Chimp-face' or 'Teflon Tony' as President makes me squirm!

When you say bathing the royals in tax money.... To my knowlege only ht e Queen herself gets money (about 7 million a year) and possibly Charles, but i think he gave up his cut. Most of the royal familys money comes from the land and businesses that they PRIVATLY own. If your talking about money spent driving them round, functions, security etc. Just think about your senators!
