Look Emo may have various meanings but I truly do believe that most of the music that comes from this scene originate behind a concept of music created and produced by Brian Emo who was the producer of many MANY groups including and not limited to Weezer, Talking Heads, David Bowie (see also Mick Ronson), Lou Reed etc...he was a pioneer in the alternative music scene and now all of you think you have found a new term for something that is terribly OLD!!!!

Emo (from emotional) is a slang term used to describe a wide range of fashion styles and attitudes somewhat affiliated with emo music and its related scenes. The word "emo" may be used as a noun to describe a member of the emo scene, or as an adjective to describe a certain style of fashion or music.
Emo music is hardcore so someone who is emo listens to hardcore punk or dresses in all black. It's the new goth.

It is the stereotype form of people who cut themselves. Emo is short for emotional. But long ago meant nothing of the sort. Yet not all poeple who are "emo" cut themselves. I am emo. And if you think about it everyone is emo becuase "emo" means emotional there are manny emotions in the world.

"Emo" is short for "Emo-punk", which is short for "Emotional Punk". Emotional punk is punk rock that has more of an emotional feel, usually a strong singer and lyrics are usually about emotional subjects. Emo band examples, The Used, Billy Talent, My Chemical Romance etc.
So if you're emo it means you dress/act/live the way that these bands do.

emo is a kind of gothic punk. Emo=emotional. Theyre not gothic enough to be called goths-although often wear lots of black and have black hair, they still wear other colors, kinda tight cloths (even on the men). The have a punk twist and wear studded belts...and all the get-up

Being emo means someone who listens to the newly popular emotional music from bands such as fall out boy, my chemical romance ect. The style for emo is usally black, boys wear old t-shirts and tight jeans and old tennis shoes. Died black hair is common. Being emo is a passing fade for teens to express themselves and is an oulet for teen angst.
