i have created my own data for tax purpose.when i want to format the dates it gives circular reference.

I assume you are referring to Excel.

Highlight the cells you wish to format, then choose the format menu and choose "cell" There's an option in there for date from which you can select many different formats, including British.

I suspect the circular reference here is a red herring. Circular references have nothing to do with how the date is formatted. A circular reference occurs when the answer to one formula depends on the answer to a second formula, and the second formula's answer depends on the first. It's usually more involved than that, but that's what it comes down to. Excel should automatically draw arrows to indicate where the conflict lies.

If you are using Windows, you should be able to create a separate Regional set-up based on the United Kingdom rather than the United States.

Go to Control Panel, Select Regional Options and Select Input Locales.

Add United Kingdom - it will add the correct modifiers as well as currency symbols and other bits.

Set up a hot key to switch between the two regional formats or tick the box to "Enable indicator on the task bar".

Job done.
