France has a semi-presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of France is head of state and the Prime Minister of France head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the Senate and National Assembly. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

The government of the United States of America, established by the U.S. Constitution, is a federal republic of individual states.

The US is not a democracy, it is a republic. You don't even vote for the president in the US. If we did, Gore would be president now, since he got more votes than Bush in the last election.
