I played soccer for 14 years, and ice and heat are excellent for sore muscles, and work even better when rotated, my doctor always instructed me to ice for 30 minutes and then heat for 30, and continue the cycle for 2-3 hours, or as needed.

Heat, it will cause the capillaries and blood vessels to dilate allowing more blood to the tissues, helping them heal. Cold to reduce swelling if they are swelling.

the best thing ever is a warm shower,it moves away the lactic acid resultin from muscle excercise.

i used to run track....and everyone, whether they were sore or got hurt, used ice.....we went into the football locker room and took ice baths....it hurts but helps alot....
